Would you stop it with the mass transit shilling?
It's really not feasible in many cases unless you want to force everyone to go urban
mass transit shilling
that's the most american wording ever
🤣
I agree that mass transit is good(better in most cases), but in some cases it's not
brother you're american
i mean, i kind of agree. you really do need the population desnity to justify it
But you bring it up everytime somebody mentions a person going somewhere outside of their house
I don't
greatly encouraging urbanization would go a long way to helping reduce the world's carbon footprint
But that just might be the american in you cringing at the word public
Yeah no, urbanization sucks
you produce a lot less carbon walking to a grocery store than you do driving 20 minutes to the grocery store
What do you mean by that?
my area definitely doesn't justify burning a billion dollars/km for it, especially thru dirt that's half sand, half clay, & 100% equipment-destroying concretion
i can't for the life of me spell properly rn
like 90% of frankfurts bus transport is already electric
btw
using more public transportation also greatly helps
now, if i was to suddenly get a grant to spend $10k to convert my car to full electric, i'd do it even if it halved my range
but yes I absolutely would walk
having 40 people on 1 bus produces less co2 than 10 people in separate cars
The other 30 have to stay at home?
the only time I use PT is to get to the office (when I need to) and to get to friends that are further away
lol yea, having reasons not to travel to begin with would be even better
not what my point was
the last time I was in a car is about 4 months ago
i'd use public transportation if it was physically possible
jet airplanes are more efficient than cars.
Even so, 10 seperate busses with 8 people each would produce even more co2
jet engine in car, got it
And that's the reason it won't work everywhere
don't see people taking jet airplanes for a 10 mile commute to work
With some to provide downforce 👍
ThrustSSC
Also
yes.
That reminds me, are Cyberpunk's cars still disappointing in terms of performance?
encouraging urbanization along with bolstering public transporation in the areas where it would work currently would go a long way
or combined cycle car. jet turbine + steam lol
May I introduce to you the cheapest form: Trams
also safer, quieter, and honestly nicer to look at
infrastructure is cheap cheap, running cost is basically the salary of the driver
Bolstering it in areas where it works, sure. I strongly dislike urbanization and don't ever desire to live anywhere larger than where I do now
cannot tell you how many idiots in cars insist on driving down those tracks & are shocked when a train shows up
That's fine and all, but I don't like people. If I have the option to drive, or sit in a crowed bus. I will drive myself.
wolf be like this is my daily driver:
do they have active sight and smell control too?
from a utilitarian pov urbanization is great, though some people would prefer to live on massive plots of land that serve little to no function
and i never said force urbanization, i said encourage
like by increasing taxes of non-urbanized areas and reducing taxes in urbanized areas
not having to share a wall with annoying neighbors is a big plus
That's such an incredibly bad idea
I can't even explain how bad it is
It's already been done, and it sucks
absolutely. Increasing the taxes on the top earners is the priority
Also I strongly dislike that idea as well
Why
hard to legislate higher taxes for wealthy individuals when the people writing the legislation are practically living off the funds from wealthy individuals
me and my gf are planning on taking a cross country amtrack train adventure at some time in the future.. I don't know when. new orleans to los angelas by train is like $1400 or something
would be great if they made lobbying illegal
Because the best economic times were ALWAYS when the taxrate of the top earners was extremely high. In any country.
Any time
in history
we need lobbiest. paid lobbying should be illegal however.
Because you're penalizing succes at that point
which is what i meant, i just didn't adequately articulate that
I think we should tax the ultra rich heavily.
oh for sure
reduce taxes on the poor, increase taxes on the ultra rich
the fact that they've started space programs due to lack of stuff to spend money on is a pretty clear sign.
Again, why? That's incredibly injust.
when you quite literally have more money than you know what to do with while there are people struggling to feed themselves, there's a problem
just doing some research into it would change your viewpoint pretty quickly if you're actually interested in the common well-being
To them, sure. that money could be and should be spent bettering everyone.
I've fairly well done my research, that doesn't mean I don't have to agree with it. Feel free to link articles though.
You call it unfair, and maybe it is. but the bridge that's about to fall that I drive over everyday is unfair to me.
Then the government should do better with the money they have
how tf is this about tech anymore
i'd argue it's unjust for people that rich to even exist
this channel sways wildly between actual tech talks and political conversations
usually when we run out of tech stuff to talk about it moves to politically charged topics
it's just because these topic intertwine heavily
And maybe it is... but all throughout history there's always been a 1%(however different it looks). If you want to eliminate it, fix the system. Don't penalize people for succeding within the system.
sounds about right
"punish" is honestly ironic, not like they're gonna go starving
Are you in the 1%? I'm not saying tax them til they're broke. they can keep their lifestyle and space program.
they have billions
Not even close 🤣
I drive an '02 taurus with 200k miles
that is an entirely unfathomable amount of money for 99% of people
though taxing the rich gets complicated as hell with how they keep their money stored
most of it being tied up in stocks, with not a lot being liquid
They can stay billionairs, I don't care. but if they paid even 15% income tax (because they probably don't), it wouldn't effect their lifestyle at all and it would benefit humanity (if the money was spent wisely)
stocks are different.. the way that works is you pay tax when you sell.. if you sell for a loss it's a tax writeoff.. if you sell for a profit you owe
Not really technical but a guy gifted me ASA in exchange for basically telling him "turn on XMP also you need a new CPU"
Anyways I really do not give a shit about people that only have 1 billion instead of 10 billion because of taxes.
either way they can afford extravagant life styles most couldn't dream of
I can't afford a tiny house in the countryside
and the irony is, their tax rate is less than yours, because they have CPA's
But why? Why should sucess demonize them?
IT'S NOT SUCCESS
when you quite literally have more money than you know what to do with while there are people struggling to feed themselves, there's a problem
Again, fix the system, don't penalize people for succeeding within it.
every single one in the top 1% has/had rich parents
it is. I see his point. but just because you're sucessful doesn't mean you should be able to write off, and reduce the amount you owe in taxes.
there is no "success"
I agree with that as well, the system has far too many loopholes
ight i'm out, have a good night y'all
So generational wealth is bad now?
YES
Why?
Make everyone pay the same percentage. no deductions. (unless you're poor)
I can get behind that
think a nordic country did this
It kills any economic movement. The money is locked up in one pocket.
It keeps the money in one demographic
It undermines your whole idea of success and "work for it" attitude
generational wealth is horrible for any economy
instead of one super rich asshole keeping the money away from the working people you have generations of assholes keeping the money away
dragons need their hoard
the center of homeowner is meow
and we all know that cats are evil
no offence @inner shale
Is it? To go back to the rocket example, just look at the massive amount of innovation and economic movement that have come from companies like spacex, amazon, etc.
SpaceX has outpaced the launch capabilities of every country on earth because of its unique standing as a privately held company
That wouldn't be possible at all in an economy where the ultra-wealthy were taxed at 90%
you mean the 2.5 bil from the "US Space Force" plus 7bil in tax breaks and 900mil in subsidies by the US gov?
or are you referring to private investors?
Anyhow that money isn't made through the rise and grind mentality
And let's also mention that spaceX is being run horribly. Loosing money for no reason on launches made for publicity stunts
The money isn't coming from the top earners in any way.
What are you referring to there?
(:
If you're talking about starship, it's a huge money sink atm but it'll land them so many contracts that weren't possible before that it'll make the cost of development back in a year or two of regular operation
That's just the gov. paying for launches
starship is okay. I don't care for musk, but unlike benzo's and whatever other billionair.. musk's space program does appear to have a purpose
Also keep in mind that Starlink is also run through SpaceX which is heavily subsidised
Tbh I don't really care if they're subsidized, NASA, ULA, ArianneSpace, etc haven't made anywhere near as much progress
nasa's got a new heavy lift rocket
Point is, SpaceX wouldn't exist without gov intervention. (almost all of musks companies wouldn't exist)
That costs more per launch than all of the funding & tax breaks spacex has ever recieved combined
nasas doesn't really let their stuff blow up either xD
I'm not saying gov. intervention is bad
and they usually pay a living wage too

spaceX is made up of people who didn't get into NASA
I don't really think that's a problem
it is
As bad as Elon is. The tech is remarkable. And progress is being made
Why?
not like my opionion matters, but for the sake of convo.. I think private space industry is/will be good for humanity. not space tourism however... that's trash
Nasa has had stuff blow up too
nasa has made major mistakes.. they're people with budgets too.
that's not to musk tho. The people that work for him usually have a passion in that area but without the experience
Tourism is hopefully just the first step to industry... we'll see how it goes. Notably, the space tourism industry is floundering atm since there isn't much demnad
Musk has plenty of passion, just bad judgement in what he says/does sometimes from what I can tell. Maybe too much passion?
Passion is what it takes to innovate sometimes.
space tourism is such a dumb fucking idea only proving that we need to tax more
starship heavy lift rocket is good though.. bigger payloads into orbit
And more effeciently
natural gas as fuel vs expensive kerosene or hydrogen
It promotes tech development... and IMO it's not any worse/better than regular tourism stuff
We need space tech development
that's one thing you have to give to space x.. using a commonly available cheap fuel vs exotic hydrogen or ultrapure kerosene.. or solid rocket boosters.
it moves the decision for funding from the gov/common good to private individuals
also SpaceX has actually flown & reused hardware, something that only the nasa shuttle has done at 30x the price per launch & nowhere near as reusable
I wanna die knoing we might just actually make a Dyson sphere
Their engine tech is crazy good, from what I know that's all that allows it
it always starts that way, but eventually it'll trickle down to "plebs"... just like datacenter gpu tech
I'm not saying spaceX is bad. Just that a lot of their funding is already done through the gov
oh 100%
Like any company
okay Reagan
I think that's why they've been blowing up too.. I read a little bit about it. it's a completely different design from the saturn V
but it's also been one hell of a success for the investment
There's gonna be some gov funding in it
they act too carelessly but are making progress
The last launch failure was supposedly caused by structural damage for the first stage and fuel supply issues for the second, but it's hard to tell
something to do with on the saturn v it syphons exhaust gas to power the turbopump (fuel pumps) but on space x it has a seperate jet turbine that powers the pumps. it's neat lol
I mean both starship flights were unmanned
So no loss of human life
starship engines use full-flow staged combustion, which is probably the most complex way to do a rocket engine, but also ends up being more stable, reusable, & uses up all of the lox & fuel
Oh yeah, full-flow staged combustion for spacex
human casualties are cheap
It's better than Challanger / Colombia.
doesn't amtter if manned or unmanned, it's only a matter of PR
Not to mention the most effecient/powerfull tech currently avaliable
fuel issues on a rocket engine cause something called the pogo effect.. increased thrust, decreased thrust and it oscillates until it rips the rocket apart
yea, using up all the fuel & lox will do that
For something like starship where they're trying to maximise payload to orbit on such a large scale, it's more or less the only option
Shits gonna explode
i found it really dumb that they went with hot staging, that's just begging for problems with the booster
In the case of full-flow staged combustion, it causes bigger issues than that... can cause internal detinations in the turbopump
boom lol
Kaboom
bangbangboom
If they can make it work, it'll add something like 80 tons to the payload to LEO
And if they can't make it work right away, they can still fly the boosters in expendable mode
after watching all the tiles falling off the ship, idk if it'll even survive deorbit
Since they're already cheaper to produce than any other launch vehicles
I think that'll be their biggest problem with ship as well. I'm really curious to see what they come up with
i'm starting to think the recycling coolant right on the skin might've been the right way to go
imagine how good they would be if the gov would be able to fund them properly
to compare, the shuttle could only carry 25 tons to LEO
Stoke space is pretty darn cool using similar tech
yea, saw that vid
Yeah, just look at ArianeGroup!
🤣
so shuttle... 25 tons to LEO... space x starship... 165 tons to LEO
Pretty crazy... but It's weird to remember that that's a 40-year gap in development
i mean, it fuckin better for how big it is
That's almost a singular maus
the shuttle looks bigger tbh
Remember that that's a comparison of starship upper stage to the entire shuttle launch vehicle
consider the amount of fuel in the shuttle... SRB's... and that giant tank are all fuel and oxygen
Yeet the 188 ton tank
MOAR BOOSTARS
Again, spaceX is definetly not a privately funded comapny or even hardly a company
they're great
oh that's just the upper stage.. I thought it looked a little like a chode rather than full blown dick
yea
Space penis
but it's not because there is some person who works 30000x as much as the average person
fuckit. shuttleship
Wrong channel pal
Wrong channel, ask in #satisfactory or #1038092680493801533
ah sry
Np man
clearly amazon's program is the worst :p
just like in the streaming world
Blue origin has been a bit of a flop
they want to offer their own starlink like internet for cheap. that's such a conflict of interest.. the same place that I buy everything on is going to provide me internet.. no ty
that's the same as what google and everyone else does now but still
buy a car through amazon I swear it's great bro just buy a car bro please it's so great through amazon you get next day delivery
Real
also wake me up when we have this
i can't wait to see an aldrin cycler up & running
I will ask to be ressurected when we somehow make a Dyson sphere
if I buy it now and I can return it by jan 31 sure.
by that point, you'll probably never have to worry about dying again.
yea but you can set an alarm to wake yourself up when another big thing happens
man let's just start with the other organs please?
They're Made Out Of Meat
This is the short film I made in 2004. I shot it as my final film project at #NYFA. It stars Tom Noonan, Ben Bailey and Gbenga Akinnagbe. I must make another one day. Based on the short story by Terry Bisson.
If you have discovered this video, please subscribe to my new YouTube channel... where I am making short video ...
Like don't get me wrong, replacing a brain is insane and a huge technical leap, but we currently can't even replace a liver or a lung
(which would be way more useful)
idk i'm sure some people have brains we could duplicate right now without much issue
they're even voting & paying taxes
You mean middle management ?
Because we sure as shit know that sales people ain't paying taxes anyways
I know some that you could replace with chatgpt which make more in a month than you in a year
there is a point of no return
source: I had a few family members dies because of a fucked liver
a person can donate their liver, once. what regrows is "weird", & undonateable
And even a donated liver might not help
Don't get me wrong. I have my donor card filled out. I'm getting gutted like a fish when I die (except my balls because I filled it out at 15)
I'd also donate blood if germany wasn't so homophobic (O- gang)
i don't think i could donate my lenses, but yea, just about everything else up for grabs
How crazy is this? https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/12/is-chatgpt-becoming-lazier-because-its-december-people-run-tests-to-find-out/
sure the company is making big moves but the person funding that company is... questionable
that one from the gif is actually russia. someone installed a sensor which had a truangular housing for it. they somehow managed to place it upside down... how they did that I have no idea
Intel did Itanium, AMD extended x86 to 64-bit, which Intel then had to use too when Itanium flopped.
I’ve only used chatgpt once and I am genuinely scared of what it can do. It wrote 90% of the code I needed to make it so when I press a button a song gets added to a specific playlist
The tax brackets work that first $A is taxed at Y%, next $B is taxed at Z%, so on.
So the high earners have their first parts of income taxed at low rates too.
Flat tax is much more unjust, as that is actually regressive, where the low income earners will actually have much less to use as the percentage of their income that will go into tax + necessities will be much higher.
As the necessities part doesn't really change no matter how high your income is.
Being taxed 50% or even the historical 90% of your income above the first million a year?
Still extra money.
Yes it would, because the tax is on the profit/income.
If you use it in the company and don't take it out, it isn't income that is taxed...
When the taxes on companies were high, they used their money for research, grow, paying their employees etc. and the profit was somewhat low because the company was using the money they were getting for something useful.
Now when the taxes on companies are low, they just make profit and the money just goes to either off-shore accounts, to the rich, or to stock buybacks (again to the rich).
So if for example tax brackets were: 0% on first 5k, 5% for 5k-20k, 10% for 20k-50k, 20% 50k-100k, 40% for 100k-500k 65% for 500k-1M and then 90% for 1M+.
How would that be against the rich or unfair?
The amount that is left over every year is already mind-boggling.
And that is only on realized gains for example, not holding to the stock etc. which doesn't get taxed when the stock price increases, unless you sell.
But any flat tax, or consumption taxes like VAT etc. are regressive, and hit poor people much harder than rich.
If company made 1B revenue with 100M of cost to do it, and then used 850M on research etc., the profit would only be 50M. And taxes would only be on that 50M, as example for company taxes.
When the theoretical profit was 900M if they dropped the "extras".
But using the 900M for something actual is much better for the economy vs. getting it out as profit is.
But worse for the rich owners and exec-level people personal immediate fortunes.
Also usually better for the company in long run too to invest, and not make it profit.
but also there's stock buybacks that are somehow not viewed as what they are, which is yanking company profit out of the company & pocketing it
and that's somehow not considered income
December 4th:
A company releases a game. With a lot of promises. People think it's a scam. But they say it aint.
fast forward a week.
I have to catch up on that...
Just joined, so true. People forget that for millenia the entire basis of a strong economy for the rich being strong for the poor is the ability for that money to be spent in the community. If a guy makes a buisness and makes 3 million dollars and spends a large portion of that on goods in the community, there is still massive wealth extraction but they spend that money in your community and is trades hands for goods all around. When that sane buisness gets replaced with a Walmart that wealth gets extracted out of the community for ever and becomes a new bank account in the cayman Islands
If that's the case, tax luxury goods etc, not the income
Huh
What model did that?
Who made a ticket?
Idk what is happening
😒
Yeah I'm confused
Your Honor. Herg is innocent!
Am I getting banned for a photorealistic painting of a Ford?
let's see and find out
A "simple" script to change default browser to Firefox for searching with the start menu web.
This should have been a feature ffs.
Why do users have to hack everything to get it to work the way we want.
people really should learn at least the bare minimum about their pc
wtf are they doing 😒
bro tryna play satisfactory on an intel mac
with an emulator (which adds extra strain on system)
and 8GB ram
i5 quad core at 3.4ghz
But wine on top of that oof.
yeah emulating on that is ruff
it’s like exactly at min specs
never had a pleasant gaming experience on a Mac anyway.
other than the windows bit
not what they are made for.
I play bloonstd6 on it
ok, like flash games. 👌
this is going into my folder
you didn't realize that when they send screenshot of their specs
I give up.
want to send a link to google translate.
might also be someone younger and doesn't understand what is going on
fight or flight, send him a link to factorio 😆 Maybe they are able to run that
translator go brrr
Baldur, CSS should pay you for support 😆
still going huh ?
for some reason 🤷♂️ just a matter of time
Taxing luxury goods only works if they buy them, the richest people in the world don't really buy things that's the problem, you would just tax middle/upper middle class people living beyond their means even more, which is fine in some cases but the middle class unironically does the brunt of the tax bill these days.
it does feel like it's becomming a bit more unstable. Long freezes after alt + tabbing from a video to GW2. But no crashes 🤞
Yachts, private airplanes, million dollar cars, etc
Probably tome to drop the convo, but yeah I see your point
Was it you who recommend me a clean install of OS?
Or Fireworker 😒
or baldur, or herg, or
nah, neither of them. Herg said DDU.
wasnt me! 😄
maybe the decision was in your heart all along
Didn't go for it before the HW side had been tested.
But I think it was fight or flight who had the same problem, PC crash. And a clean installed fixed it.
Don't want to cheer victory yet. But looks promising.
Yeah, made perfect sense.
Me, I think
So weird ...
It worked?
Most I got is 4 hours of stable game.
Since fresh OS yesterday, it run for 7 (went to bed around 1AM). And today it's been running for 3.30.
Well, that's good news!
it would be amazing!
new feature ...
Microsoft is going to recommend apps in the share menu now.
As if they aren't pushing their 💩 in our faces enough.
Fresh install of my OS and it looks like this:
all bloatware. They aren't installed. Just links to the store.
that's weird
Windows does that now
22635-2850-beta-channel
But now they going to add more of their adds in different places.
Because clearly putting it on the start menu isn't enough. No no.
22631.2792 yeah I'm not in beta
Is there a way to disable the share menu?
I don't have a share using menu 😄
Probably with GPO at least?
Neither do i.. I thought that was more of a phone thing
I hope they add it here:
I just wonder what Microsoft obsessions is with pushing their own tools like that?
or they that insecure? They don't believe in their own product?
ps as admin:
Remove-Item -Path Registry::HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shellex\\ContextMenuHandlers\\ModernSharing -Recurse -Force
Yeah. Not doing that.
You know that removing packages also leaves a bunch of crap? Like, sure it's gone. But the connections to other parts in the OS are still there.
That isn't removing package, it is just removing the Share entry from right click menu.
For example, if I remove xbox gaming bar. I still find traces of it in my settings etc.
I know.
^^
No. It's editing the registry.
Even removing an entry from it it seems.
Editing the part of registry that contains the right-click menu entries.
Just stupid, it's pulling out cards from a card house.
It's just removing the option
Eventually it will fall flat.
Just speaking out of experience.
A costumer, shouldn't need to go into registry or GPO. Like the average one.
the average consumer also doesn't loose their marbels over a share menu
Consumers shouldn't do that to remove a little App.
👆 And that stuff is nasty. It just remove a package, without an actual cleanup
Because that is part of the base OS, and you aren't supposed to be able to remove it.
Just disable it with simple toggle in Settings.
Imagine paying 100+ for an OS with ads and shit
I will always be against this top-down approach when it comes to software and packages etc.
Yeah, but the "official" advice remains that.
It's like wanting to remove the popcorn button on a microwave. Shire you might not need or want it, but it's part of the product
and the fact it's ALL over the internet CLEARLY means people want to get rid of it.
Nah
popcorn button has use.
xbox gaming bar is just pushing their own XBOX...
Xbox menu too
man, fuck that shit. Linux knows it's right.
I don't use the popcorn button. You don't use the Xbox gaming stuff.
and let's not kid ourself. It's not just 1 app. It's like ordering a microwave, with 5000 buttons. And you only need 10.
Those are removable, as they are just forced addons on retail versions.
That actually usually only get installed once you connect the computer to Internet.
you may not agree with me, Microsoft is super agressive in pushing their own stuff wherever they can.
Oh no my OS ships with install links for popular apps whatever will I do
Hell, even Apple doesn't do this shit.
surely right clicking and selecting remove is a burden too big to carry
Yes?
Because you as consumer OS user are a product at this point.
Not customer.
So? Doesn't mean I like it. I am not the one not agreeing with myself.
you both seem to like it. (or not care)
Just not raging here, as it helps no-one.
I do not care
Not raging. Just stating facts.
There is reason I don't use Home or Pro version.
we shouldn't mess around in powershell to uninstall apps.
we shouldn't mess around in registry to remove certain features.
I shouldn't have to use a screwdriver to remove the popcorn button
Use the Feedback hub to complain instead so there is even small chance that someone at MS reads?
nah just leaving this out in the hopes that people will think twice before executing stuff in powershell
remove registry entries. remove packages.
yes?
Just need to understand what the command does?
And poking around in that specific part of registry is what official toggle would do too.
you complained about preinstalled apps for 30 minutes
In my experience it's way more complicated than that.
how does that relate to teaching people about safety with powershell commands
play around with powershell. Fuck up your registry. You only live once. Have fun.
great advice 👍
that's literally what I do
👍
There are also programs specifically coded to edit those right-click-menu entries.
I know.
^^ that will fuck up your install
are you dutch or belgian? just asking bc of your username
Belgian 😉
ah oke dacht in ieder geval wel deze hoek van de wereld
oh god he's speaking drunk german
the best german
en jij?
nederland
Fucken hate both of ya countries
mutual.
okay
heh
he is german
figured
And Denmark
classic germans
france .....
Nah, the french love everyone
maybe the french part of belgium
but not the french french haha. on valorant its always the french that are toxic
Luxemburgish is dutch sobering up
@night girder still going ok ?
I still don't know what's happening
someone reported you.
for what tho?
one can never understand a SJW
they could be offended by tom and jerry, they could be offended by fords, they could be offended by oil ... who the fuck knows
probably think your memes belong in a meme channel or something 🤷♂️
or maybe the creator of tom and jerry was some bad person, and they were offended you used a reference
ah so you reported me
or racist because it contained the word black
oh dear, right ... a "black ford" ...
nah, have no time for that 😆
honestly though .... i dont understand the image ... guessing at its some weird take on AI generation or something ...
gotta check out his other works
its a gif or jpg ...
this is also from him
oh, ok, i see... since it was only pointing at one image, i didnt see the other images
makes more sense now, the meme 😉 i thought you meant that meme was a painting of oil on canvas
and im like how... its just a cheap junky meme lol
so back to the initial Q at hand, yeah, why did someone report that ... ??
oh well!
that's watercolour btw
watercolor, oil, acrylic, mustard and ketchup ... when you are tallented like that, the medium doesnt matter
I hate using the word "talent" with art
There's a lot of work going into those pieces, a lot of training and also a lot of failure
"talent" implies some god-given power that you did nothing for
Exactly
maybe for you it does.
Natural endowment or ability of a superior quality.
Synonym: gifted
ability of super quality = something you can develop.
Usual interpretation is natural endowment tho
You'd rather use "gifted" as a synonym than "skilled"
bro stop doing this shit again. Just call it skilled. Every artist would kill you if you play them down as talented instead of acknowledging the years of hard work they put into it.
and this whole "but acktually this word can be layet out like this if I do mental gymnastics" is dumb
It is part of the official definition
Believe what you want. I have no talent for drawing. Doesn't mean I cannot develop a talent for it by 1000000 of hours of practice. Sure maybe someone else needs 1000 hours to get where I get.
"Talented" lies between gifted and skilled
Or having an affinity for...
That's nothing you develop
No. I think people mix up talent with affinity.
Also, having an affinity for smth doesn't make you good at it
gives you head start
As I said:
You'd rather use "gifted" as a synonym than "skilled"
I just use talent.
Which is meaningless when discussing the meaning of the word talent or talented itself
Because I don't believe in "A marked innate ability, as for artistic accomplishment. " as a definition.
👆
I don't know any appropriate words in German, but I still hesitate to say talented
Doesn't matter what you believe.
What matters is what commonfolk believes
You a sheep? - I am not.
All artists I know hate being called talented
I can define "asshole" as a term for something or someone that gets rid of annoyances.
Doesn't make it okay to call people assholes tho
We had this discussion about words so many time. People call AI, AI. Some don't. 😄
Language = interpretations. You cannot fully decouple those two. There is context too.
Exactly
So what is wrong with me saying I don't believe in that definition of a talent?
Talk to Webster then
And context here is: skilled artistic people hate to be called talented because it neglects the time and effort they spent on developing their skill
That the people who it affects do believe in it
Why do you think there are SEVEN definitions of one word ... interpretation + context
why do you think the definition of a single word, is different between dictionaries?
If you define the N-word as a neutral describing word for black people, that still doesn't make it okay for you to call them that
Yeah and in the context of art you always mean a natural ability
Yeah, one is an insult.
While the other word is more of a compliment.
As I said:
You'd rather use "gifted" as a synonym than "skilled"
It's not tho
If you don't interpret it as an insult, it won't be one
we never defined talent as a natural ability, I know the story of the bible with the talents (coins). It's something they wanted me to believe. I don't believe it.
It's just saying that the artist is naturally better than others which is in many cases just not true
Like I said: I have 0 talent for drawing. Not born with the gift. Doesn't mean I can develop it.
People started a shit storm against a colored pencil maker because they wrote "negro" on their black pencil - it was just Spanish for black
Maybe if I go full crazy and do nothing else than drawing, maybe eventually people will say I make nice work and call me talented 😆
No you develop a skill. Not a talent.
Doesn't matter what you think, it matters what the people it affects think
People will still go to a gallery, look at a drawing and say: "now that is talent."
View it this way:
Imagine you thought the N-word wasn't a slur. Anything you say to defend "talented ≠ gifted" applies to "N-word ≠ a slur" as well
Because those people are just as ignorant as you are
I am not ignorant. I don't believe in "born with abilities to do shit perfect" crap.
Someone else might say "very skillful painter"
Yes, you are.
Artists don't want to be called talented.
You defend calling them talented
Black people don't want to be called the N-word.
You defend calling them the N-word.
You are making so much assumptions holy...
Same logic
this is the whole conversation. It's not technically correct or nice to call it talented
Isn't your whole point "talented ≠ gifted"?
"Artists don't want to be called talented." - Who said that? Who? You know all artists?
they don't
I know plenty of artists who blush when they get a compliment. I know plenty of artists who want to be invisible.
Any artist I've ever seen or heard talk about the meaning of "talent"
"you're talented" isn't a compliment for many artists
They will appreciate your good intentions, but they won't like it
🤷♂️ I would take it as it is. If someone says* I am talented. I just know I worked my ass off to get where I got. I said what I said. A talent can be developed.
Watch them react to being called talented, being called gifted and being called skilled
You essentially said the N-word isn't a slur
And justified it with "do you know ALL black people"?
Ok, now you making me into a racist. Good discussion 👍
Anything you have said in this discussion can be applied to that just as well
I'm trying to show the flaw in your logic
I don't know where you are finding these arguments, just because I said I don't believe in one single definition out of the x definitions of the word talent.
The N-word was also used as a non-judgemental descriptor of black people.
Doesn't mean it is okay to use
Every single point you tried to make applies to "N-word ≠ slur" as well
seriously, yall are bitching about the word "talent" ... must be an age thing ...
Because that's what you are doing.
You neglect the wish of affected people based on personal bias
No man. I am just saying what my philosophy is, the way I approach the word talent.
I don't get it either, maybe I'm too old?
And your philosophy doesn't align with what affected people want
But I am not affecting anyone 😒
i dont care enough about specific words to ... care ... talented ... skilled ... to me means all the same thing. i just dont give a shit otherwise to split letters about it. going to lunch
If artists don't want to be called talented, you affect them by calling them talented
If someone tells me personally they don't like to be called talented, I am going to respect that. But if someone asks me if I believe in talents. I will tell em no. Talent is something you can develop.
Else people might never pick up certain art forms becausee they aren't "talented". It's gate keeping.
Skilled, trained, gifted all mean the same?
Someone's good at something, that's all?
Screw the word talent. Do whatever you want. You want to game? Have no talent? So what? Game.
Just not going to gatekeep.
Okay, then respect that and don't call artists talented.
Use other words instead.
artists are... artistant?
If you respect black people's wish to not be called the N-word, it doesn't matter if you think whether or not it's a slur
You do know. That somewhere in the world. People would disagree with this right?
@edgy hazel what's your go-to pick for "skilled" in German?
isn't the 'N-word' a slur in itself already?
Like, I hope you realize, humans aren't a hive mind.
Because if you get upset because someone disagrees on the definition of the word talent, society can be rough.
Yes, probably.
But that's because of secondary factors: if you don't think the N-word is a slur, it likely means that you have other racist beliefs too
Started off as a simple descriptor, then turned into a slur
Yeah, but you brought that whole thing up in the discussion about artists being born with a talent or not 😆
I don't disagree on your definition of it, I disagree on your use of it
feels a bit out of context for the whole discussion.
sau gut

Oink
🐷
Well, then you are as ignorant as me.
The whole discussion is:
Herg/F2K: "artists don't want to be called talented because it neglects the hard work"
Letterdief: "in my understanding of the word talented, it doesn't"
That's completely missing the point
"in my understanding of the word talented, it doesn't" - and I said over and over again that talent is developed.
If my definition of the N-word is the biggest compliment someone could give to something, that still doesn't make it okay to use or defend its use after someone asked me not to use it
how is being called talented neglecting the fact that it still is bard work to create valuable art?
talented doesn't neglect the hard work, in my definition is what I said. Because talents are developed. With hours and hours.
dunno, ask them.
That is the exact thing I was summing up with my message
They seem to think talent is one of the biggest insult you can throw around. The same as the N word apparantly 🤷♂️
it's more a "skilled would be a better word since talent in the context of art almost always means a natural ability the artists didn't have to work for" kinda conversation
Because talent implies an innate ability, something bestowed upon you
And artists don't get good from a god-given power, they become good through hard work
Although multiple definitions have been posted by now that don't mention the word natural.
so the discussion is about 'it's in the genes' vs 'it was hard work to get there'
Definitions don't matter because if artists wish to not be called talented, you shouldn't call them talented
No, it's about this:
#off-topic-tech message
It kinda is.
It's not about the meaning of the word talented, it's about the usage of it
And again. You generalize all artists.
I brought up the N-word to show how your logic is flawed
You do too
I think you are splitting hairs here, but yeah... If you want me to not call you talented, but the hardest worker of an almighty painter god... Sure, you do you.
No, I don't. I acknowledge that I would respect someone if they don't like it. But I am not so stupid to think that humans are a hivemind and all think the same.
There are artists who wish to not be called talented, but based on your own personal interpretation of the word you would still do it
I know plenty of people who have no issue if I call em talented. All of them are artists.
You just seem to think everyone / all artists would be insulted if you call em talented. Which is stupid.
There is more people like me, especially in Belgium, who think "a talent is something you develope", so if they say "you are talented" that means you worked your butt off. That's reality for me.
Again. Skilled would be a better word
"I know plenty of black people who are fine with being called the N-word"
Same logic
Just shows you how complex it is 🤷♂️
Asked an artistic friend rn.
Said she absolutely despises the word talented
Good.
*how ignorant you are
I'd think a person that is talented/skilled/working hard to get better at whatever they create should not be sent to a bad place in the head when someone is calling their ability to create art as talent. Whatever... Have fun, I'm out
bro, thinking everyone is the saame, bro accusing me of being ignorant 😆
my mother was an artist, she never minded.
So suuuuure, I am ignorant rofl 😆
Her words:
"Talent is a starting point. Skill is where you are now"
I mean we can go back and forth. You have friends. I have friends. I know people. You know people.
I'm just asking you to be respectful and not to assume that every artist is fine with being called talented
or just accept the fact, that not everyone agrees with it 🤷♂️
"I know plenty of black people who are fine with being called the N-word"
I never said that. Again, you putting words in my mouth.
I'm not going around blindly calling people talented
Even tho I know that people exist who don't like it
Where did I say that I call all people talented? Again, you seem to be not clear thinking or something? Maybe we just drop this discussion. But I just gave you my own definition. All the rest you are saying now, it's a story you are developing in your head. Nothing to do with me.
It's your entire logic - "I'll call every skilled artist talented until they tell me not to"
Again, no proof. Never said that. This is tiresome. 👋
YOUR definition doesn't matter if there are affected people out there which don't agree with it and would want you to not use it
No, I don't. I acknowledge that I would respect someone if they don't like it. But I am not so stupid to think that humans are a hivemind and all think the same.
Means the same as "I'll call artists talented until they tell me not to"
Might be a language thing tbh
No, ffs.
It means, I respect people opinion. But I am not so stupid to think that everyone hates to be called talented like you do.
Are you calling artists talented if they never told you whether or not they like it?
Now YOU are putting words in MY mouth
I don't know, I probably called people talented. 🤷♂️ What is this, a new woke thing that you cannot call anyone talented?
Two types of artists: either doesn't care, or hates.
So why use it?
Oh, this still going on? You got no real problems to talk about?🤣
When there is word that all of them accept?
man, since when is the N-word on the same level as "talented". I am so tired of this modern age 😦
Never said it is
well, you sure seem to make a big deal out of it.
Just used it to tell you that your logic and justification of calling artists talented is bullshit
Yeah, maybe not do that.
seems like walking around snowflakes on eggshells is a skill you need to learn to not offend anyone too much nowadays
You know shit like that just derails any normal discussion.
the purpose of the US is to produce corn syrup, so jot that down
Same logic was used by racist assholes when they were told to not use the N-word
I kinda feel offended now. Would you please stop talking about that? Thanks
Just google around. You find all types of people 🤷♂️
Seems like we are not the first to have this discussion.
Is not awful to use "talented". It's just better to use "skilled" because that actually appreciates the artists hard work
You want me to explain, why people use the word talented? You want me to explain, why free speech is still important? Pff. This is never going to end.
Doesn't anyone have tech news?
NONE of that matters
"So why use it?" - I was refering to this. Because why not? People use words.
And rule number one when giving compliments:
Always compliment something the person has actual influence over.
That brings us back to how I see talented. Something you develop. ⭕ So in that sense, you have influence over it?
In the context of art, talent is not something they have influenced over, as it is a natural ability
Any other definition in that context is wrong
Because some people don't want to be called by that and there's a better word
Language thing probably
I respect your opinion. But I am not giving up the word talent. Neither am I changing my mind.
Neither do I appreciate being called ignorant for it like you did multiple times.
we know that since your second message
so with talent and training/hard work you may get skilled
but without talent you have to put in waaay more work to reach the same level
and makes the second one better as it required more work than the talented one so being called talented diminishes the work of the first one and thus 'no one' likes to be called a cheat?
Which goes very close to being willfully ignorant now.
From just being ignorant before.
Get off your high horse. You two calling me ignorant, sounds like your opinion is 100% correct. Mine is false. And I don't get it. Why can we just agree to disagree?
Yes. Calling someone talented ignores hard work. If deliberate or not
You called me ignorant.
I just returned the favor
Here someone who doesn't mind being called talented. Oh no. People are different? 😮
Skilled would be better, as the person has direct influence over it
I picked it up from you, I don't know such big words. But hey 🤷♂️
"Doesn't mind" doesn't sound really positive tbh
You don't need to respect my opinion.
Respect the opinion of artistic people.
and I sending screenshots of other peoples opinion. Yes, the screenshots fit my narrative. And it doesn't fit yours.
And we have multiple times stated that some don't care, significant percentage DO care.
Never posting art in this goofy ass channel ever again
And herg and I sent memes and opinions of other people.
Your screenshots said "I don't mind", ours said "please don't"
Yes, I know I started it, I noticed that too
But yeah blame me. And I asked to drop discussion multiple times. Ignored too
I meant ignoring the wishes of artistic people
You meant ignoring nuance
You're trying to micdrop-leave and I'm not letting that happen
not mic drop. I don't care about this shit. I don't want to win. I want to not being called ignorant for having a different opinion than you.
And this whole time it feels like high horse talking over my head.
Also, why are you reacting with ❌ to Baldur?
I am calling you ignorant because there are artists out there who don't want to be called talented and you defend your usage of that word because you don't agree with their definition
Yes, as another TEST level UEFI, not even Beta.
never defended the usage of the word, I just give you my two cents of how I see it.
As long as you respect the wishes of artistic people and don't assume everyone is fine with being called talented, I don't mind what you think
Simple question:
Are you calling artists talented if they never told you whether or not they like it?
I don't care what you think. Just don't belittle me.
Ignorance is lack of knowledge, it is natural and everyone is ignorant about some things?
I'm trying to make you understand where your interpretation of a word clashes with the real world.
I'm not trying to belittle you, I want you to recognize the nuances in this and that it's better to assume nobody is fine with it than everyone being fine with ut
Baldur for real. You going to pull that card?
I see being call ignorant as an insult. It's not a nice word to say.
Because it was, as try to get you to finally THINK.
Not my definition tbh.
I see ignorance as acting against knowledge because you don't want to
That is the Willfull Ignorance I mentioned.
You just calling me stupid and dumb this whole time.
While all I gave was an opinion based on my experience, how can an opinion be stupid?
It's an opinion!
I thought ignorance is dying on the hill you stand with your opinion even when presented with evidence of you being wrong about it?
Again, the willful ignorance.
If that's what you think 🤷♂️
I just see at this: I have an opinion. Which I know literally never hurt anybody ever. You guys have an opinion. You all yelling at me I am an awfull being for calling artist talented. And I just see it differently totally 😒
Ignorance is natural, as no-one can know everything.
Ignorance turns into willfull ignorance when the person intentionally refuses to accept knowledge to "fill" the ignorance.
as english is only my second language and I have not much experience talking about those fine nuances some words have it's often hard for me...
You know, I like discussions, but if I don't see any arguments that really convince me, does that mean I have to just accept arguments I don't believe in or understand?
Hell, I don't even see what is wrong with what I said to begin with 😆
I'm not trying to convince anyone, just here to understand what the fuzz is about
never call ANYONE talented STM. That's the gist of it. It's a big insult.
As I see it everyone is entitled to his own options, but maybe sometimes it's better to keep em for yourself?
I'm very talented at wasting time on the internet instead of doing what I should be getting done👍
E3 is officially dead. Kinda sad, but it's been starting to die long ago
how so?
👆
Sony, MS and co started to either not be there or even had their own thing at the same time

covid was the last nail in the coffin
I figured it was just because it became a spectacle with no content.
it became a media sensation with no substance, and people were looking for more substance than they were getting.
Since we were talking about space x the other day.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk's_Tesla_Roadster
Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster is an electric sports car that served as the dummy payload for the February 2018 Falcon Heavy test flight and became an artificial satellite of the Sun. A mannequin in a spacesuit, dubbed "Starman", occupies the driver's seat. The car and rocket are products of Tesla and SpaceX, respectively, both companies headed by E...
oh boy some drama went down here
Hell, I forgot it's in orbit. Though we just yeeted it into space 😄
Purple is Tesla. Yellow dot in the middle the sun. The dark blue one is earth ofc.
Same place as R Kelly
it's plugged in, so it seems like it's trying to read. But there is nothing to read? What happens if you plug that usb A in?
Plug that end into a cheap usb charger brick

what did it read?
for science!
gods invention
I have found uhh. A 2.5w charging brick.
It takes 4.5 hrs to charge my phone from 25%
perfect for charging your pinky
It's funny tho my phone can out draw the charge block
2.5W isn't even enough to boot my pi
It's barely enough to trickle charge a phone.
At like 15% per hour at best
VS like my regular 20w charger at basically 65% per hour
also HUGE development!!! I was able to start my first discord bot
Holy hell nice
can I ask it to make illegal substances
The real question is
it can do anything bing chat can do
Can it tell me how to make met...
grok can
do you mean mead?
probably
also don't use meth. The high is garbage anyways.
It fucks you up way before the "normal" drugs do and destroys your body extremely fast
anyways. My bot works. I'm really happy
If I just plug a 4 pin cpu into a 8 pin motherboard will it run
Depends on the board but probably
damn..
I did a lot of work for nothing then. (maybe) I should've tried it before I cut wires.
Kind of shocked that board had an 8 pin. it's not exactly a high end board. cpu is a 1600af and eventually when I get the a380 that'll be the gpu
250W psu.
It didn't work with only the four pin?
I didn't try it
am4 boots without a gpu?
it'll boot but good luck getting an image without an igpu in it
I was surprised that it'll boot. I'm going to try to see if remote desktop will work without the igpu
also idk how common it'd be, but my old dell was the original AM4 platform & it only had a 4pin for the cpu
but it'd also trigger OCP once i put a 1700X in it & by some miracle it took it
yeah. the 1600 being a 65W cpu I would think the 4 pin would've been enough for it
the machine keeps bootlooping before the gpu posts, or doesn't output any video. I think my 620 is dying. thats why I tried booting without it. pressing the power button the fans would jerk and it wouldn't power on
oof
aren't there weird drivers you can get that will force the cpu to output video
It just slows down pc because cores are going to video
i think so, but idk if i'd trust those unless you're doing a last-ditch thing before having to spend actual money on some kind of solution
Wait actually
just had my SECOND Plextor SSD go bad on me... both were my boot drive the first 1 was warrantied and now the replacement died. no more Plextor for me
is it possible to install windows to a thumb drive so i can temporarily boot off that, or do i have to go buy a new hard drive first?
You have to clone windows to a USB for it to be a full fleged windows install iirc
@indigo marsh and I'd suggest a much better SSD
or winPE but MS doesn't officially support it so you'll need to find it yourself
yeah don't use plextor
Crucial, western digital. Are who companies I'd reccomend
Don't use WD ssds they're a waste of money
They aren't bad
SN770 keeps up. As a M.2
For the price is a good gen4 dramless ssd
Crucial is always a good choice, Solidigm/SK Hynix for high performance NVMes (in a mid range budget), Samsung is another safe bet but pricier than crucial
plextor is the only thing the store had on hand when i was re-building that pc. and m.2 wasnt around when i originally bought the mobo for it
Don't buy from that store again then.
2.5 inch sata ssds
What store did you go to, mom and pop's dinky computer hole in a back alley somewhere?
Best buy and micro center don't even sell plextor
Can still get a good 2.5 inch sata from crucial
You seem to really like crucial (I don't blame you)
Or Kingston for that matter. Avoid the A400 tho
it was DiT Corp
I know it's a safe brand.
Is kingston still actively making SSD's or is it just backstock and flash drives now?
I personally use western digital.
No clue
I have like 4 A400s laying around. I've heard they are dogshit for quality
So I'm guessing back stock
im lucky i kept all my data on WD Hdd's and a 1tb crucial ssd, but i want my windows install on its own ssd
plus all of my other hard disk space is full again :p
Unless you're trying to minmax your build you don't need a separate windows ssd, it matters even less on NVMe
On hdds it makes sence if your able to short stroke the drive. But ssds there is no point in having separate storage spaces unless you specifically need it
I normally raid 0 the rest of my storage together.
So 2 2tb drives just become one 4tb one
Ik ik no parity and backup. I donr wanna manage multiple drives at once for games
On some older SATA SSD's the random read/write was weird and if you were running a bunch of games/programs installed on your boot drive it would actually slow down the PC so thats probably where zerg is coming from
unfortunatly, when i had my windows install on its own ssd, it actually cut my pc's boot time in half (when it was windows 7)
@sharp oasis laughs in unraid
Just firmware optimized for highest marketing numbers and not actual performance.
And that went away LONG time ago.
Hence why I mentioned short stroking. I remeber people could partition off areas of harddrives that would be faster then others to access.
does satisfactory utilize all cores?
I know I'm saying this guy probably gets his idea for a dedicated boot drive from that
kinda but not really
Wrong channel, but somewhat.
But mainly single-core limited anyways.
Lot of threads but two main threads that are the bottlenecks.
It distributes a little bit of simulation across all cores but otherwise runs in 2 threads
Yeah what baldur said
Why is every game seemingly hard locked to 2 threads? Is it too much work to implement multithreading? Are the engines not made to do it?
and upgrading from windows 7 to 10 made boot time go from 2 seconds straight to desktop to 20 seconds to login screen. guess ill try installing windows to a thumb drive for now
Why not do dynamic multithreading or hell even user configurable multithreading
Could be a number of things.
Yeah it'll do that on an old win7 machine
Because games are more linear type thing in the calculations.
And you just cannot split linear progression of calculations into multiple threads.
The hardware from the main win7 days isn't really meant for win10
It CAN do it but it's going to be noticibly slower than win7
Def nor meant for win 11
The threads need to be independent.
If they have interdependancies, it is often less efficient to split and sync them.
gotcha
i7 8700k cpu
Oh
Xmp on?
Well for starters you're using a plextor ssd
Not really?
Yeah check xmp
As the 8700k was ddr4 right?
yes
Main difference is RAM usage between Win7 and Win10.
Win10 needs more and 4GB can run out.
windows 10 doesnt have the option to skip the login screen and go straight to desktop according to the windows rep i was talking with at the time
They were lying
It absolutely can
64gb ddr3 on that pc
What? the 8700K is DDR4
or 32, cant remember
Or does it support both
Hold up
Only DDR4 for 8th gen.
Again the Intel spec page RAM speed is pretty meaningless.
Not with 4 sticks, which the 64GB probably is with on system that old.
@indigo marsh Either way, enable XMP in your BIOS if it isn't already
The plextor SSD could be part of the problem or maybe not, also if you upgraded from windows 7 then chances are you're using the MBR partition table instead of GPT, and there's no way to change that without losing all of your data unless you have an extra drive lying around to do a transfer (you'll have to reinstall all your programs tho)
Though MBR VS GPT shouldn't matter much in boot speed iirc. Its also possible your bootloader is stored on the HDD for some reason, which again shouldn't matter much but it could
32GB could be two sticks.
Yeah yeah
Prolly max of like 2900 ish
What is the actual thing?
UE5.2 U8 doesn't run on Win7 without hex editing.
Runs fine on same computer in Win10.
WIN10 does also take slightly longer than WIN7 to boot because its doing more stuff, but it should not go from 2 seconds to 20
As in what is the source of the conversation?
What is the problem?
As long as its not one stick. 2 sticks vs 4 sticks has negligible impact on any dual channel cpu
Why does the system need tweaking?
Other than installing Win10?
Major impact on max frequency.
And if XMP works or not.
His boot speed is 10x of what it was before. Wile using a separet boot ssd.
Boot speed went from 2 sec to 20 sec when moving from 7 to 10 apparently
Separate*
And that 2 sec time is extremely anomalious.
So nothing weird going on on the Win10 side.
I have not heard anything about it affecting max frequency, is this for manual overclocking or XMP B profiles?
Probably an exaggeration
It does have a massive effect on max ram speed between 2 and 4 sticks
On a dual channel CPU right? Not a quad channel?
Because your ryzen and intel core aren't quad channel
More load on the IMC with more chips and more DIMMs.
More reflections on the bus from multiple DIMMs.
Limiting the max frequency the IMC can drive the BUS with enough signal integrity.
2 sticks in say a 5600 system can do 3733mhz. 4 sticks barley manage 3000mhz.
well, my win 7 install had 0 bloatware, and completely skipped the login screen, not sure how the guys at DiT corp installed it when they were arround
Oh huh guess I need to revisit ram and channels
If your user account doesn't have a password its supposed to automatically log in, sometimes it doesn't and I don't remember the fix off the top of my head
Pretty sure its in group policy but I might be wrong
