I am trying to make it pretty though, skyscrapers for the factories and nice bridges for trains

ok, the thing is, i just unlocked the tractors, and it said it has an auto pilot system, is it worth making a completely different base for something specific and use the tractors to transport or are the tractors ass?
Tractors are your first longer-range logistics option available. They are quite fun! You can continue to use belts if you like, of course, but vehicles are fun to explore
Later on you'll unlock other logistics methods, all with their own pros/cons
Personally I really dislike long belts, so if I've gotta transfer something more than like 300m or so, I'll use something other than belts
i wanted to use trains, because idk how precise tractors are driving by themselves
In the end it's down to personal preference. They've got a definite learning curve (some of which will be changing once v1.2 is released) but IMO tractors are well worth figuring out

Tractors can be 100% reliable for delivering stuff, but they do take a nontrivial amount of practice. v1.2, once it's out, seems like it'll probably smooth over a lot of those edges, though
if you spend your coupons wisely you can also leap straight to the gg vehicle and use factory carts

I think trucks are a great option. They have good throughput and require little infrastructure. You just need a power source (likely coal) and two truck stations.
They are near useless to me as I can't drive them to record the route
the ones between certain foundations, that's why you should always use asphalt for roads to avoid them
For me it's more of an aesthetic thing, but it's also that belts are inherently labor-intensive. When you lay down a single belt (or a bunch of belts), then you've got that fixed amount of throughput and that's it. If you need more throughput you've gotta lay more belts down, or upgrade your existing ones, which is labor-intensive
Whereas with vehicles you can always slap more vehicles running the same route, and IMO recording new routes at least partially along already-established lines is more enjoyable than plonking down endless belt segments

Oh sorry, meant to say "rough edges" as in "the little quirks and stuff you discover and have to work around in order to become proficient at working with vehicles" :D

Factory Carts Cure Depression also mentioned the "default" foundation, which does have minor edges on 'em that I too would avoid on roads. I don't actually build roads for my tractors, though -- I just let them go on the "natural" roads on the ground. :)
exactly, like how bouncy the line between metal foundations is and how annoying it is while recording routes
Check pipe connections and junctions and my math is my first step of trouble shooting

If they do, they should auto-recover pretty well. And if a vehicle hasn't reached its next node after a certain amount of time, they should auto-teleport to the node after some number of seconds

I've not seen actually deadlocked vehicles in the game in a really long time

I make a separate, isolated factory for literally every resource I make
Start them early
if you sit there and watch a crowded route sometimes there's a clog or something that can happen but it does fix itself as soon as you're "out of range" and it also never happens at all unless you're close by and watching it
oh thats a nice mechanic, kinda ensures that you will get what you need no matter what

When you're far enough away they don't even fully simulate; they just kind of teleport to the next node periodically

Yeah, I don’t know if Satisfactory always renders the person, because if that’s the case, then to the vehicle it would seem like someone is always looking at it.

I make my targets based on the product, not the nodes. If I want 30/min Copper Sheets, I make a 30/min copper sheets and then that's done. If there's room left on the node(s) I used for other products later, then great -- I can always split the node output

Personally I wouldn't bother trying to "maximize" node output -- it's a huge map with a ton of resources. But then, I like expanding. :)

I also never expand existing factories. If I need more of something, I just make another factory for it. Expanding existing factories and/or rebuilding is too much work for me; I'd prefer to just build a new one from the ground up. It's the same amount of Factory either way, but that way I get to start from scratch and not have to worry about adapting existing stuff, or dealing with any past "mistakes" I made on previous factories

With the new patch, when you start a new game, you can now randomize the seed. That means you could get more impure nodes, fewer impure nodes, or more pure nodes. It also randomizes the resources, so where oil was before, it could now be iron, etc.

You can also adjust the rates, so for example, you only need half the amount of a resource to get to the new one. Or you can increase it instead. Lots of cool shit.
i got 2 oilpumps, 300 each, going into 1 puffertank, 4 raffinerie at full OC, making 400 fuel/min into 20 generators, but somehow the generators wont all work, any idea?

I forgot they simplified the recipe, used to be 4 Steel Pipes, 4 Iron Rods, 2 Iron Plates & 1 Motor for the automated portable miner (assuming my memory is correct) in a manufacturer.

The map itself will forever be static; they have no plans for procedural map generation
Due to the oil well in the middle of the map, I'm probably going to have the sporting goods plant also supply regular & turbofuel, might even get rocket fuel in the canisters, only need a tiny output for jetpack stuff.
On the experimental branch right now (which will eventually become v1.2) there's options to randomize resource nodes when starting a new game, though.

1.2 experimental has random nodes as a option. Its the same hand crafted map though.

<um_actually> A "random seed" is just a number used to start off a chain of pseudorandom number generation, btw, and can be used to get the same set of pseudorandom numbers over and over. The random node options in v1.2 do make use of a random seed for that. What you're really after is procedural map generation (which, yes, would also presumably be programmed such that you could provide a seed). </um_actually>

Very early prototypes of the game played around with daisychaining.
(Not that you can't do it yourself w/ blueprints, of course)
Plus most of my stuff is powered from below, hiding the power cables.
I have a whole ass system where I clip a wall plug into the machine where the original connector is, then another one under the floor, wire those together so that the wires clip through the machine in a way that's barely visible beyond a few meters away, then have basically one ceiling plug clipped into the floor so I can daisy chain the prints themselves, it took forever to make all my blueprint modules like this
I wonder how badly I can crash the game engine by firing a cannon into a portal, that is facing another portal.

I like trucks but yeah it was a headache to set paths
having to redo the whole path because of a slight mistake in the recording sucks

Trains powering themselves is a big plus.
almost everything after phase 2 uses coal so you can just feed a bit of the coal you are harvesting into the stations
hence why you should skip coal for power
ehh, im planning my factories to use all the coal usually, sometimes more than all the coal

power poles are not that magical of a feature to have them be mandatory, it gives you more options to organize things

Hello, in this 1.2 version, are they going to fix the pipe problems? The holes in the ground where liquid stops flowing, pipes that don't refill, etc.? Or is it estimated for another update?

I don't think there'll be any changes to the fluid sim in 1.2, if there were they'd definitely have said something about it given how many people struggle with it

If you know there's more oil out there, give there are only around 100 sloops, hardly seems worth it

I drop a generator 20 percent for every truck but the amount they use is far less.

if you are playing on the same computer all the time with a local save (not connecting to another computer or server while playing) it doesnt matter.

my train shows signalling problem eventho there is no signal in a 5km radius
placed block signals before and after the train and it still doesnt continue
so Signals are all or nothing. they divide A entire track line into blocks. Minimum Two blocks
playing for 2 hours with the EXTREME preset too and always good weather. seems to be broken 🙁

This is probably a stupid question but I just downloaded the 1.2 update in the expiramental channel and now the game wont even start. I keep getting a message popup saying "plugin 'CharacterReplacer' failed to load because module 'CharacterReplacer' could not be loaded. There may be an operating system error or the module may not be properly set up" is this a result of the update? Also my b if this is the wrong channel

i fine the Lows really make it feel bad. If 32 fps is your low try locking it to 30fps. it will remove any random frame dips. that is what your brain sees as jerking
I'd reccomend not putting satisfactory on an HDD, get an NVME if possible

You can just not use it all. The miner will just spin down when it's full.

Anywhere that has the resources you need to be honest. I tend to break it up. Building fuel platic and rubber wherever the oil is. I tend to make ACU there too as you need computers for that.

The best thing about trucks is that the only need fuel and two stations. You dont need to set up a tone of foundations or make a bunch of rail

You need both. trains are better for longer distances sence you dont have to setup fuel and thier fast. Trucks are good for pulling things in biome to a central area. cleanly.

I have 50 hours in satisfactory, 2k in factorio and love me some x1000 in that game. I'm starting a x100 space cost, with default pure nodes. But I cannot decide for the life of me on 3 things.
-Starting location (always done grassy easy start)
-Power consumption cost
-recipe cost

starting locations aren't much different to each other and I really wouldn't do 100x space cost being new
the milestones are really a tutorial
would you not be able to get away with limiting input? underclock production machines or use splitters/balancers to get desired rate into the train without overfilling things at the unloading station

i'm too lazy to figure things out so i've always ran a single item per transport on a train, and sunk the overflow on whichever end of the train needed it to keep everything running. the idea of a sushi belt and potentially needing to untangle it to keep the line running terrifies me
and the main thing i always want to do logistics on is usually raw resources and/or stage 1 processing (ingots, oil products)

I guess I see that as more similar to AGS settings. If there's a "challenge" of some sort for the players to solve and the different setting/playstyle/whatever takes something away from the other players then that feels more like a "server rule" type thing. Maybe I just have a different take on how much someone cheesing respawns or whatever actually affects my enjoyment of the game

I think a sushi belt is probably a poor way to feed a single depot but if your feeding a line of them it’s probably fine
k so with smart splitter how do I make sure it can just keep feeding it things without giving it more than it could take.
You can't feed a depot multiple items
you cant upload multiple items to the same depot
I am feeding 1 depot as that is what I can afford. The sushi belt goes to my sorting system after the depot.
You can’t take items out of a depot automatically so if it goes over by one it gets clogged immediately
i mean you can try but its not gonna work
you have to have 1 or more depots per item
I’d either manually upload items with it or wait until you can get more
