honestly, if you really wanna unshackle yourself from constantly looking for streams and lakes, setup a train depot near a space with oil and water... and have it export packaged water, using plastic made on-site. with 30 plastic/m you can create 60 packages/m, which lets you bottle 60 water/m. So it's a matter of doubling!

A fully utilized pure node will let you put out 1800 plastic/minute tops. That'll put you at 3600 packaged water, or three train stations at 1200/m (belt speed limits. darn belt speed limits...)

You can then just import that water to wherever! It unpackages at a base speed of 120/minute from a single packager, or 300 fully overclocked. So for the simple cost of one import station of water, you can forego figuring out where the nearby lakes or streams are and instead just put down a couple packagers and done.
