I recently bought this game, about 2 weeks ago and i love it! i have 65 hours in one world and this is genuinely and amazing game. It has made me want to continue my game development learning efforts. (i can't believe it's made in unreal engine!)

well i think the burnout's coming from the monumental tasks for the base i have in my latest save
(unlock drones, build the drone port bay, build the storage floor, build a train station floor, connect the drone port bay and train stations to storage)
not to mention i have to make it all look good
Decoration takes a lot more effort than folks might realize at first, for sure
it takes me like 2 full days to decorate a silly coal gen setup
On my 1.0 playthrough I eventually decided to just ignore aesthetics 'cause it felt like I was never gonna finish the playthrough otherwise. :P

yeah the logistics stuff I feel like I know exactly what I'm trying to do so there's pretty identifiable progress but some decoration stuff takes me a lot more trying/failing cycles to get it how I want it to look

TIL: One can use AMD FSR upscaling method and frame generation, it works on any GPU, it's actually built into Unreal Engine itself π€
You can have 2 foundations and each track in the middle of each respective foundation and that is fine too

Just have 1 machine making motors at whatever rate that makes them, and over/under clock the machines making rotors and stators to suit

I would say for p1+p2, maybe p3, yeah. Then you should really farm a lot of mercer spheres and hard drives and retrofit it with dimensional depots + put those on new stuff.

for mercer spheres, yeah. If you don't have a ton of mercer spheres and hard drives for alternate recipies, the start of P3 when you can get a jetpack with liquid biofuel (and a rifle) is excellent time to do it

does anybody else here like to just inspect this game for every piece of genius game design? it is a masterpiece, from the textures, to the atmosphere, to the optimization, to the just pure gameplay loop, and all the detail, both literal and in the way the game hooks you and keeps you in. i could spend hours just geeking out over the design.

is it possible to make the encased heavy frame recipe neat with clocking or do i just bite the bullet that im going to have some backup
like its 7.5 frame, 9.375 encased beam, 33.75 steel pipe, and 20.625 concrete a minute to make, its hard to exactly feed that much into the manufacturer

tools give you the instructions straight up like lego, modeler lets you make your own
first one is actual calculator, modeller is more like logistical planner (but tbh planning things ingame is imo better)

My towers have 18, but they sit on top of their fuel production. So far I haven't made any satelite towers. My first biofuel power plant had 9 biomass burners, so I'm improving.

I'm learning a lot of tricks in the construction. I had to come up with my own blueprints for the vertical load balancers.
So, what does your coal generator look like? I have 4 stacked in a blueprint (well, you have to add the upper 2 after setting down the blueprint) that can be tiled. Hm, I need to make a blueprint for the water.
idk what all those words about upper 2 mean but ill make some right now in screenshots
I stack 4 coal generators in a 6x2 foundation space. The upper two generators can't be placed in the blueprint because they are too tall for the Mk3 blueprint designer, but I put in markers to show where they go after you place the blueprint. You just have to place the two generators and connect them to the conveyors, pipes and electricity.

first the space station tier 2 then ill waste modulair frames on the blueprint

The tank is a fluid buffer, and you make the pipes by experimenting till you get it right. Sometimes you have to put in temporary stuff to connect to in order to build stuff, then delete the temporary stuff after you get what you want, where you want.

I'm no expert, but in that first picture, I think you're limiting the ammount of water those two extractors can pump due to the limit of 300lpm of the pipes. Perhaps someone with more experience can help.

Well, with that you need transformers to reduce losses and actual high-tension lines (with the associated electrocution possibility) for long-distance power transmission.
Might as well throw in 3-phase power, too, requiring 3 wires to carry power from a power plant to a transformer or substation.

Ramps and floors everywhere, going to slugs and then directly to resource nodes. Eventually I guess the entire sky is just going to be ramps. I started in the desert this time. I kind of don't feel like it's been that different from the other starts, just feels like my iron is further apart so I need longer paths but there's more iron in general. Lots of pure iron, too.
just fyi, if it wasn't clear - pick any place you like. The time you spend here optimising for "best" place, you could've spent building factories in first place that comes to mind and already be ahead in time against "best" place
did coal generators have more smoke in like 2023-2024?
The coal was an absolute pain to get to and I needed a massive sky bridge to get to the sulfur so I could get my explosives going
I'm a big fan of skyroads and then I build factories beneat the road as "supports" for it

Its not impossible it has 4 answers its really simple
There's zooping and there's the blueprinter which would let you make a 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5 foundation print to use to speed things up
So simple that I could probably ask an ape and they'd answer instantly
it has more than 4 answers, because you can walk anywhere on the map
and even if you limited it just to spawn point, you'd have to define what recipes you're using, what's the production goal, what are your preferences in used resources, what do you optimise factories for, etc etc etc.
oh well in that case the best one is the grasslands

If you open the power storage it'll tell you what the max charge rate is. You want that to be the average of your geothermal power if you just want to level out available power

I think it said that the charge rate is limited but the discharge rate is unlimited, I think when in doubt you probably just make more of them like you do in Factorio
I think you'll still see the curve but you'll have that average amount of power available to keep it from blowing the circuit breaker

In Factorio for full solar you needed a pretty absurd amount of batteries but that's an extreme example because the production goes to flat zero when it's night
yeah for my answer why I'm looking at max charge rate is because if you have unlimited discharge the rate doesn't matter but it operating at a rate that will cause it to empty before it can recharge will be bad
I feel like the simpler answer is to just build more, never hurts to have more battery XD

clocking your machines how you need them is always worth it. Clocking is hte single most powerful logistical tool you have and makes 'ratios' completely meaningless
well I also don't have that many slugs yet anyways unless you mean underclocking
you can under clock for free
so you can often just have every machine at 100% and then under clock 1 machine on the line to have constant, non stuttering production
essentially don't even look at 'ratios' as a thing, just the overall part consumption to production to evaluate if it's a good trade

how does everyone handle trains needing to change direction? e.g., are you building roundabouts at every intersection? are you having over/underpasses every so often allowing trains to reverse course?

my trains all are on the same system with a "main line" so they can go anywhere in any direction

i think if i didnt get burnt out of my main save i would have gotten something like 1.2TW with nuclear + augmenters
the plan was to make 630GW from nuclear and then give that a boost with like 3 power augmenters for a total of 90%

Are there any cool tricks for building things underwater? I'm running a train line a ways up the west coast, and I want to use a stack of Big Frame Pillars as "pylons" to support the track beds. The only thing I can think of is make a blueprint and then nudge into place, but I wanted to check to see if there are other options/ideas.

argh, I thought I understood fluids. So it is often said that you should input into your machines from above, which makes sense. However what is far less talked about is how you handle your outputs. I've got diluted fuel blenders feeding into refineries for recycled rubber/plastic. Three blenders outputting 300 fuel into 10 refineries taking 300 fuel. The blenders will occasionally back up their output stalling production, meanwhile the refineries at the end of the manifold are starved. The nuance I'm suspicious of is that I have my output from the blenders going up slightly, so that the fuel can flow down into the refineries. (Screenshot in screenshots...)
Anything that ragdolls you into the water makes you walk underwater. Or is that not what you meant
My best solution is to do packaged diluted fuel and then it seems to be perfect every time. But lots of full belts kills your CPU π
Add a loop back. Or feed from the fuel into the R/P refineries from boths ends(and the middle, depending how many, basically distubute the flow)
Straight manifolds are not good for pipes, Should always try to get the fluid in a "loop"
I'll try adding a loop and seeing if it makes a difference.

Those are the only four signals which can exist on the system
its a branch off a two way highway meant for one train........
Then good luck, because signalling bi-directional tracks correctly and efficiently requires decent knowledge of how signals work exactly. Unlike with duplex, there isn't really a set of rules you can follow and end up with a well-signalled system
So the two trains will synchronize on that middle "passing lane" thing
