What does it mean when it says 'media is being synced in the background'
Media is being synced in the background

It would say, like collection synced but then nothing pops up on my phone
Syncs are, unintuitively, between your device and ankiweb; you have to sync on both devices for one-way information movement, and sync on device AâBâA for a bidirectional sync.

What are you expecting to pop up?
So if you trigger sync on your laptop and on your mobile, both say sync complete without doing anything? And you are sure both use the same ankiweb account (same email address as shown in the preferences)?

Maybe if you give us more specifics about what is happening or what you are seeing -- and what you expect to see or happen differently -- that would help. It sounds right now like you're successfully syncing.
Like right now on my phone it's empty so it says 'collection is empty'. I would want my cards to transfer đ
- What's your
anki version (__H__elpâ__A__bout) and
ankidroid version (âSettingsââAbout)? - Do you have any đ§© addons installed? Some of them do things when you sync (ankihub, leaderboard, ankimorphs, fsrs helper)
- If you go to
https://ankiweb.net/decks do your decks show up? (if no then anki isn't syncing, if yes then ankidroid isn't syncing) - There's no pop-up saying
"full sync" or "select which copy to keep"? https://docs.ankiweb.net/syncing.html#conflicts - try ToolsâCheck Database đ sometimes that magically fixes syncing
- it's possible that your internet is somehow blocking part of the sync. https://docs.ankiweb.net/syncing.html#firewalls Try running
ping ankiweb.net; ping sync.ankiweb.net; ping sync2.ankiweb.netin a terminal. - What's your android version, and operating system and version?
And you manually triggered a sync on both devices? Anki by default syncs on startup and closing, AnkiDroid I think defaults to manual sync only.

Anki desktop: ToolsâPreferencesâSyncingâAnkiWeb Account should have your email listed
Then at the top of the screen click "Decks Add Browse Stats Sync" or press y to sync
If it's your first sync it may ask whether to upload your collection to ankiweb (good if all your cards are local) or to download emptiness to your laptop (bad if all your cards are local).
Optionally, to force it to ask you this question (and overwrite whatever's on ankiweb), ToolsâPreferencesâSyncingâSynchronizationââ On next sync, force changes in one direction, but this shouldn't be necessary
