#add-on sync on new device

I don't know if it counts as non manual but I find that copy and pasting your anki2/addons21 folder is fairly easy and will import your addons and their config (if they do not depend on another file that is not there, in which case you'll have to import it separately)
In my system it's here if you were wondering
sorry im not the most tech savvy does it require that i have access to my old computer π
oh yes π you have to be able to fetch this folder from your old computer for this to work sorry
oh shoot is there no other way?
also how would i even be able to move the files? like a flash drive or smt?
yeah flash drive or export/import via cloud service
I don't know of any but maybe somebody else here does
ok thanks so much for ur help though!
You're welcome, sorry I couldn't help you enough tho π
no it's ok you did what you could π
No, there's no other way. Your add-ons and their configuration were stored locally on your machine with your other data in your Anki2 folder -- https://docs.ankiweb.net/files.html#file-locations. They don't sync to AnkiWeb with the rest of your data.
If you no longer have access to that computer, I'm sorry to hear it π’ -- but there can be a silver lining to starting fresh.
- If you have a newer version of Anki on your new computer, you will want to check compatibility of your add-ons one-by-one anyway, so installing them one-by-one will give you a chance to do that.
- You'll remember the add-ons that are most essential to you, so those will be easy to re-install.
- For others that are useful functionality (but not essential) -- if you don't remember them yet, you'll notice when you can't find that functionality. If you can't remember the name at that point, feel free to ask here and someone might know. ("I used to be able to do XYZ, does anybody know what add-on that was?")
- For the rest -- you probably didn't still need to have them installed anyway, and they were just ticking time bombs of future incompatibility.
