java.lang.OutofMemoryError: Failed to allocate x byte allocation

Out of memory (crash) indicates that the game has run out of memory

On PC:

  • You are able to allocate more memory on PC using the launch argument using -Xmx4G, which allocates 4GB of memory. You may allocate more than 4GB by adjusting the command with the amount of RAM you would like to allocate. Generally, it is not a good idea to allocate more than 50% of the system's memory.
  • You can do this by going on steam and then pressing the settings icon. Next, press properties. You should already be in "General" where you can enter the launch option.

If allocating more RAM is not possible or if you are on mobile (ios/android)
The best solution in this case would be to address what caused the crash instead. Here are some common causes and what you can do:

  • Creating a new region: Your device is unable to generate a region of that size. Try with a smaller size instead.
  • Taking a map picture: Your map is too large for your device to handle taking a full map picture of. You might want to use the picture button zoomed in
  • Zooming out in a map: Sometimes the game tends to crash if you are too zoomed out on a developed city. If this is the case you would want to play more zoomed in on the map.

Aside from that, you can try freeing up RAM by closing background application which may be using up RAM and disabling large and unused plugins.

Just take a normal screenshot or use take picture instead of map picture
