I don't know if this is the correct way of asking about this, but I tried asking it on the "Translations" channel and had no response. Feel free to delete this ticket if redundant! I'll copy-paste my messages here:

Hi! I've been checking the Spanish file, and I've found some inconsistencies that I'm pretty sure are due to being translated by speakers of different varieties (Spain vs Latam). There's nothing wrong with either one of them, but would it be possible to split the language into es_es and es_la, for instance? It's standard practice in the l10n industry (and I'm not making it up, I'm a translator actually xD). I don't mind taking care of the ES variant, btw!

Also, if I wanted to add another language, is it really just as simple as adding the directory with the corresponding ISO code? Doesn't it have to be greenlit by someone first?

I believe you can add another language as you stated

And since all the translations are community done, there should be no issue with this!
