this is the first time i've seen it happen

the buildings i had here before allowed me to have 2000 people with no demand issue

yeah all of my buildings are abandoned now

#

nothing will go up and im about to go in debt

I would have to assume some of your industrial buildings got nerfed

#

And with that created a spike in demand there, while killing the others

i got rid of the industry thinking that was the issue

as all of the residents would go there

#

but even with industrial everything still gets abandoned

That is the most likely cause. This results in absolutely negative demand for residentials and they start leaving.
