Hello all. General question: when playing TT on PC, has anyone experienced game freezing when attempting to explore space while playing on a huge map?
The rocket launches, then the cucumber dude says they've found a suitable location to land, and connecting to space command.
But when I press X, the game freezes.
For reference, I tried it on 26² km and 105² km maps.
In both instances, they froze.
I'm then forced to exit the game & restart it from my last save.

When submitting a good crash report, please provide the details of when or under what circumstances the game crashed as well as the following files which can be found in TheoTown folder:

  • crash.txt
  • log.txt
  • out.txt
You can find out TheoTown's directory for your system by checking out Ptag files.

Moreover, if you can trigger the game to crash with the same error in a reproducible fashion, please mention that in your report as well as that helps us get it to crash on our own machines which in turn lets use fix it easier.

Can you get these files for us!

It's related to saving the current city and loading a new one

and we've been unable to reproduce it

Sorry for the late reply, I clocked out at the end of the day yesterday.

#

How do I access the Ptag files? My TheoTown Steam directory does not seem to have them. Nor does the My Games folder in Documents have a TheoTown folder.

TheoTown files are located under such directories:

  • Windows: C:\Users(insert username)\TheoTown or %USERPROFILE%\TheoTown
  • Linux: ~/TheoTown
  • MacOS: /user/TheoTown
  • Android: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/info.flowersoft.theotown.theotown/files
By default you should be in /storage/emulated/0/. Uninstalling the game on Android will delete all files, unless you decide to keep the files when prompted by uninstaller. (android 11 onwards restricts access to external storage for apps, so if the files cannot be accessed this way, opt for the in-build manager explained below)
  • ios: Search "TheoTown" in the file manager app

If you cannot access game files through these directories, game has an in-built file manager for mobile devices which is accessible from the region view menu.

You can find your plugin, music, region and city files there as well as logs for debugging purposes.

Use that file location

@oblique trout does this help?

Crash.txt only tells me that you ran out of memory, I don't see anything else worthwhile in the logs

cedar jewel
#

I see.

#

I understand that one can make the game run on higher memory by including the command -Xmx1024m in the Launch Options for TheoTown on Steam. Currently I have it at -Xmx2048m.

Is it advisable to increase the number higher?

#

Like to -Xmx3072m?

#

Or should I instead stick to playin on smaller maps if I want to use space exploration?

If you encounter java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space error, that means that the game ran out of memory (ram) while processing your request or action.

If you're on mobile, there's not much you can do to alleviate this issue, closing other applications in the background might help. For PC, you can simply increase the maximum heap space as a launch argument. For example -Xmx4G will let the game use up to 4 gigabytes of memory. That is, of course if you have enough memory. Generally, it's not a good idea to allocate more than 50% of your entire system memory. If that doesn't work and you're on PC, please check if you have 64 bit Java installed, because if you don't, game can only use 2 gigabytes of memory.

Game uses 2gb by default I think

#

How much you should allocate depends on your ram availability

cedar jewel

I’ll check if my Java is 64-bit.

I’ve 32GB of RAM. Do you think increasing the game to 12GB is more than enough? 😅

Yeah

Much obliged for the assist to everybody. Not only is TT addictively enjoyable, the player base is quite helpful 👍🏼 cheers.

cedar jewel

Alright, increasing the RAM worked 😬
My first trip to...wherever the heck the pickle dude decided to send me to...

An interesting thing I noticed: my previous saves where the game froze when I attempted to engage in space exploration, it appears that despite that, the moon maps are actually available in the Single Cities folder.

Yes that's how it works
