#Game won't launch

Hello, I have just purchased the game. won't launch. I have already browsed some steam forums briefly for solutions. Have installed java. restarted. Didn't help. Tried running application as an admin. Won't help. I checked the location mentioned in an old thread (2019 old) in c/users/[my name]/theotown for a crash, no such crash reports to be found. I am therefore unsure if the game just wont even run or if it is running and crashing before any sort of launch. I'm on windows 11, have an acer nitro 5 gaming laptop with good enough hardware to run games such as cyberpunk (yes i could find the specs if you really need them to help) and am wondering if there is anything I can do. I would like to play the game, I have it on mobile, it's fun. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions that would be great :)

When submitting a good crash report, please provide the details of when or under what circumstances the game crashed as well as the following files which can be found in TheoTown folder:

  • crash.txt
  • log.txt
  • out.txt
You can find out TheoTown's directory for your system by checking out Ptag files.

Moreover, if you can trigger the game to crash with the same error in a reproducible fashion, please mention that in your report as well as that helps us get it to crash on our own machines which in turn lets use fix it easier.

And any of those files are useful

Verfiy your files and make sure your Antivirus isn't blocking any files

fair nest
#

still nothing.

severe needle
#

Let me just...

#

@odd tinsel do your thing bb

#

The dev will be able to give you more technical advice

#

But I'm gonna look through those old support tabs for some things that may work

odd tinsel
#

Must be Java issue, check event viewer for javaw and related issues to Java

fair nest
severe needle
#

That maybe something worth Googling

fair nest
#

I've tried some which is why I am confused

severe needle
#

To my understanding

#

The event viewer is a Windows thing

fair nest
#

yes

#

I have also tried using command prompt to print the current java version I am running, which I think should work, and it does run the command no issue but it returns nothing.

#

I am on

severe needle
#

Well I'm not familiar with it myself but I'll try and help ya find out what's going on

#

I just need a few minutes to finish something up

severe needle
#

I will say it shows up in this search bar

fair nest
severe needle
#

Maybe applications and services?

fair nest
#

windows folder has a bunch of stuff but no java everything else seems empty

severe needle
fair nest
#

so probably an issue with the java install? but it is installed, I can launch the actual java config file np

severe needle
#

This support tab mentions Event viewer

#

Haven't had a chance to look through it well

fair nest
#

one issue already, I don't have the file in c>users>[me]>theotown as the >theotown or the other one mentioned does not exist

#

Ill check for the mentioned path in event viewer

#

Looking for the path I can't find it, im in the windows logs>system branch right now, which might be what im looking for?? but most recent event is ~5 minutes ago, attempted another game launch and no event was logged

#

AH

#

might have found it

#

windows logs>application

#

i will try another launch to see if it triggers the same error

#

didn't trigger it again which is strange... but i found what looks like a javaw.exe error

#

#

in fact ALL of those errors to do with applications are from javaw.exe

severe needle
#

So maybe try uninstalling java and doing a fresh install?

fair nest
#

on it

#

im going to try to launch the game and see if it runs on the packaged version of java

#

nope

#

reinstalling

#

before i do that I'm going to check if theres some ancient java version lurking in my files that went undetected

#

using the tool they provide

severe needle
#

So that could also help out some

fair nest
#

yeah im reinstalling then im gonna restart

severe needle
#

Best of luck!

fair nest
#

nothing still

severe needle
#

Oh damn

fair nest
#

registered another java error in event viewer when i tried

I don't know enough about this to confidentially try and offer you advice, so hopefully in his morning JA can provide you with some insight

fair nest
odd tinsel
#

Can you run java -version command

fair nest
#

yeah it returns nothing

#

nothing is printed I assume i am doing it right

severe needle
#

try using the windows search bar

fair nest
#

now java is uninstalled somehow???? give me a minute

#

the command prompt was doing that before when it was installe too though

#

having some strange issue with the installation process...

severe needle
#

What a bizarre issue...

fair nest
#

it is reinstalled.. I wonder if when i just reinstalled it before, if restarting my computer somehow destroyed it?

#

command still returns nothing

odd tinsel
#

If it does not output anything, that means Java installation is bad

fair nest
#

any ideas?

odd tinsel
#

no idea
