I have the same issue, heck we're both using XFCE too. In fact it's probably the Same Linux Distro, MX linux (Debian Buster)

the resolution you gave does not work, i decided to copy past to the terminal entry and it did do anything to resolve the issue.
The issue directly says that LibGdx.so is not found concretely
after a file search the libGdx.so file is found (at least in my machine) two places
one is located at /home/YourUserName/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/TheoTown/.temp/ef811645/
And the other is found in
/home/YourUserName/.libgdx/ef811645/
Same place
Oh and /tmp/ directory is also found too

I think there's two ways to fix this issue, it's either the version is incorrect (possibly using i386 or x86_64 or the game cannot find it
