as a player with no expansions crafting for me was useless all the way up to when you wanna do the big content and you start going for your pink gear and related. Some professions have like a couple useful tools every now and then.
That aside it is also the way you grind for legendaries.

in my experience, it CAN help but not the way you think.
Big things u can craft that I am aware of at this current time
- Ascended Gear
- Mats for Ascended Gear
Problem is Ascended gear requires recipes that i dont remember if they are untradable or expensive. So in the end kinda wont be doing this much if at all
Mats for Ascended gear is the main use and the reason why. Daily limits on how much u can craft. THUS MEANS MONEY. You do the daily crafts and sell em for money.

Costs gold they're better off spending on other things
And if you need to change stats usually crafting is fking useless because you can just buy the exotic insignias off marketboard, and if they're untradeable, it's usually annoying to attain anyways and you're better off getting selectable gear elsewhere
There are some future grinds that benefit slightly from using crafting, of course, but it's largely a gold sink to level and doesn't really give you much back outside of niche convenience and use cases where things are just untradeable for some reason

As someone who invested in crafting on all 20 accounts, it can be very useful and there is a lot of money to be made but it takes some time to learn what to craft. It also helped me craft runes/sigils for people that didnt have the recipes/crafting levels

i suggest cooking to be your 1st 500 because its more useful

and you get to craft ascended food which will be best food + you place it down for others to use it

you can have 69 characters times that with 15 bag slots that can hold 32 slot bags thats 33120 bag slots
then you can have 18 bank slots and each is 30 bag slots thats another 540
