12 is a different system, i could metion other games but i'm 200% sure you don't know them lol. It's like you build a script for the characters and they auto play, i don't remember it perfectly but it's along these lines
1- target enemy: attack
2- if self hp < 50%:use potion.
etc, and like you will run around and when you meet enemies you can literally hands off the console and it autoplays. I honestly don't remember how harder fights are done

ye it's like real time on the field, no transition to battle

character fills gauge and performs action so kinda like ATB

but you can program characters with gambit system

generally the further you go the more it goes towards just auto battling

you just prepare what characters do when

it looks cool for sure, it has a very high build complexity, and each character has like 3-4 builds you switch mid battle, but it's very much a timing battle.
for example you build a bruiser build that is for staaggering, then you have a dps build for when you stagger, you also have a debuffer to build stagger faster, and a healer build.
And you switch in between them as the moment demands, you also have some reaction gameplay with some combos mid-air stuff

F7 regular is the orginal story, F7 Remake is indeed a remake and they get several important story beats wrong, they try to play it off as a different story to cover it but they dont do justice to them. Coral and Dyne are a good example of them completely forgetting the orginal plot and going with a fuck it we ball mentality on it. its not about Dyne being a foil for Barret anymore, its about Dyne being some drug addicted psychopath now

some stuff feels like it's completely new lore

some really great as it fills the plot holes of OG

overall FF7R story can be described as "follows the original, but with additional lore"

(i personally would still recommend playing original and Crisis Core before trying remake)

||i agree with you for a majority of the story, the one case i described is just a personal pain point for me, its a completely different situation from the original and does NOT hit the same story beats even remotely close
Why the hell are there shinra grunts there, his reason for fighting, his arguments with barret the whole instance is so different. hes not a tragic villain who discovers his humanity before he passes, hes a drug addicted loser who died playing militant extremist
The fight was exceptional and fits well with the combat they are doing||

So.. the only Tales games I played are Phantasia, Symphonia and Symphonia 2 (I'm one of those weirdos who love Symphonia 2.), Innocence on DS (never the remake sadly), Xillia 1 (not beaten because real life happened), and Graces F (Did not vibe with the combat system in the past, need to give it a try again), and even I know how freaking good Abyss story is and it makes me sad people judge it so unfairly because of the beginning
