remake is false advertising for ff7:r, it's a sequel. now it mostly depends if you enjoy the old graphics or not. but basically the story is changed, without spoiling

honestly, if graphics aren't your forte, i recommend starting with more recent ones, like X, or XII, even IX

i can give a spoiler free i think

|| from the review: basically the world is a group of dungeons, stitched together by a "open world" desert in the middle. But each dungeon has a set of obstacles that requires a certain upgrade in each of them, making it so you need to do it in a certain order( of upgrades acquiring), but TECHNICALLY you can enter the dungons in any order, you just can't complete them. Then to reach each dungeon you need to traverse the desert, that is a empty barren land with almost nothing to it, it mostly serves as a giant loading screen, and you must do it every time you switch dungeons and you are forced to interact with it for the main quest.
The Opinion of the reviewer is also that the backtracking is unrewarding, offering inconsequencial upgrades and forcing you to go back to the linear dungeons.
As well as it's hard to call it backtracking properly, i mean it technically is, but if you think of any modern metroidvania backtracking you usually are faced with choices, and you need to remember certain points that you can come back to explore more, in this game it isn't about that, it's about being locked out of an upgrade, so instead of having 2+ paths to go, you have 1 path that you CAN go, and the other it's simply blocked cause you lack the necessary tool.

i think maybe a 6.5? its not like i didnt enjoy the game, the combat from mid game onwards also starts to get more fun. but the story is very eh. and i didnt really like the back and forth running between areas early on until other modes of movement were unlocked. some enemy designs were pretty cool though, and some area music was also a huge vibe.

i could be generous and give it a 7, but i think a 6.5 is justified is enough

apollo justice only has 4 episodes

so it went by fairly quickly

yeah to be fair the first like 6 games are ~10-12 hours depending on hw fast you read
