it’s not that bad but it’s a lot worse than I thought it would be in low light conditions

an akai rv3 would be amazing but i don't think they'll ever do that

then again i didn't think they'd ever do a connection relaunch in general so i guess anything is possible

it wouldn't cost any more to manufacture, just a different polarizer
not really any different than printing different shells

assuming bandai does the lcds in house and doesn't outsource them which they probably do

my batteries lasted like a month? which is less than my V4 which i've been running from before i got the rereleases
i do think they make the low battery screen appear too soon
i put the battery that came with one of mine into my V6 to test it after it "ran out of battery"
and my V6 has been running fine with it

58 days until I find out if the age count is still capped at 99 (weight being capped at 99 doesn’t count it out since it was like that on both the tama go and friends but the age count for those still went into the 100s)

it's capped at 99 still OR
it rolls over back to 0

i would be shocked if it was the latter

i can't see it going 100+

from everything else so far this bears zero resemblence to the tama-go/friends

so idk why they'd pick that specific detail to include

Trying to get Frail characters was hard because it meant NOT being able to play Bump/Heading (it reverses physical CMs) LMAO

so they became very chunky very early in life because I just fed them snacks only to make them happy…

There’s no consequences to it but I do feel bad if I rely too much on them, I do like actually playing with my Tamas when I can

My first was Mimiyoritchi! In fact, besides Mametchi and my most recent Memetchi, I've been almost getting all V3-exclusive characters

Mimiyori, Hida, ChoMame, Bill, Teke, Papara...shocking because no matter how many times I ran a V3, I would never get any of those characters!

i have been getting lactose free chocolate from valor, but it sucks to be so limited in options still
back on topic though: i have seen billotchi use both the hat and the sunglasses, idk why debatchi was so reluctant to use items??
i think the serious adults may use either the bow or the bowtie depending on the specific character rather than gender

i may put my rereleases away for a while once the clear retro runs out of battery, i had been running my og v3 for a while before these released so i kinda wanted to run something else for now

I’ve been using lacto free milk for a few years because I had some tummy issues that seemed to at least partially coincide with having stuff with lots of milk in it 😔 I’m usually okay to have chocolate though

Luckily I’ve not run anything for like a couple years so I’m not feeling the burnout yet

the crazy thing is I had a bunch of V1s paused on my desk since early 2022 and the last two of them only just ran out of batteries a couple weeks ago

I do hope they start releasing the passwords soon and that it kind of opens up the gameplay of this a little more, I’m having fun trying to get the souvenirs we know we can get on the device though

i generally don't trust the actual number on the age counter

i don't trust it on the keitai because it increases each time it wakes up but on the connections including the rv3 it is counted the same way growth is so it should be pretty accurate

yeahh, but from how the way it works i don't think it's actually linked to the "# of hours in that stage" variable in the save data, but rather another one that makes the age go by 1 every 24 hours that i think may not be stored in the save file
it Should be accurate but it could be kinda off if the battery runs out
plus battery glitches could mess with the age variable, but i haven't seen those with this version yet (maybe they made the low battery sign appear early to avoid them??)

Items and gotchi points are kept when they die, so that's a plus

But yeah I wish we had more time with the adult stages. Sometimes I like to just let a tama chill as adults for a while before having to move on to the next gen. And it's more fun to do with all the individual adults than with just the two oldies.

I'm not sure about those, but I'd think so. I haven't let one die yet but remember someone reported on gotchi points and items. New tamas seem to be a lot more forgiving about everything

I’m pretty sure the only thing you lose upon death is your generation count (resets back to one)

ok the battery i took from the connection is doing well on the music star, even if i let it go to concerts with the sound on (that's usually what kills the music star when it's low on battery for me)
so i think it doesn't actually drain batteries faster
it just makes the low battery screen appear way too soon
so the battery is still not empty, use it on another device if you don't wanna throw a half full battery away

That low battery screen did it keep appearing even if you press reset ? I had an og v3 that kept doing that on not low battery, I would just press reset and continue, and it fixed it

I’m pretty sure Ojitchi & Otokitchi have the same likes/dislikes, they were Muffin (L) & Cupcake (D) on the OG V3. Can anyone confirm?

Jeez I didn’t realize how often drumstick came up in the likes/dislikes. Most of the blanks here are from the drumstick

Well I’ve officially tried every food with nikatchi, even the holiday and password foods and they just don’t seem to have a favorite, same thing happened with my hidatchi which octomb might be able to vouch for once they try everything too

Battery finally died for me after 48 days, someone’s probably already mentioned this but when I resumed my characters hungry and happy bars were completely empty which is not the case on the originals iirc

We are LITERALLY just missing the characters that had Drumstick as their favorite/least favorite, and Oyajitchi (which I think doesn’t have a favorite besides Steak)

That's one of my concerns with future shells continuing to be released for it; if they don't end up doing new versions or fixing bugs or giving us more passwords (which are honestly just for one-use meals, snacks or items so they don't hold much engagement either), they're just going to fall into the same camp as P1/P2s where they're just collectibles and not many people are gunna want new ones.

If they’re like the P1/2s then there might be a single bug fix update in a few years but if they’re anything like the Connections there’ll probably be several revisions

The item and food passwords are a fun novelty of each of the shells but probably wouldn’t be quite as interesting if the way they release passwords is just to occasionally give us another one through the website

Souvenirs aren’t an inherently interesting concept but the V3 made them interesting via the different ways and the exploration you’d need to do on Tamatown to get them

They were never hard to get but it did keep them interesting, so I hope that rolling out the souvenirs comes with tying them to something interesting enough to keep people’s attention

I think the V4 and V6 would have a stronger potential of having longer lasting gameplay so I hope they go down those routes

By active play I mean playing games, connecting, ect. I noticed the times I was grinding for money and resetting the shop stock I had to replace the battery sooner. Same with using the reset trick to retry evoultions and chest/lamp/fishing rod rewards.

I know it was only three months ago but Japan has already gotten a special edition RV3 and their wave 2 was announced, but NA hasn’t heard anything yet. Though iirc Tara said the goal was 4 new shells each season, and it’s officially been fall since Sept. 21st but still no news

i think new revisions (if they do them) will come in more slowly than they did in the connection era, but as a best case example of what happened with the connections, the V1 had about 8 different versions which released from early 2004 to early-mid 2005

in the US the first couple months or so of V1s were the initial VER 4.0, which was followed by a few weeks of a VER 4.1 production run, followed by VER 4.2 for the rest of the run

but for later versions the initial release version seems to have not stuck around for as long - the earliest V3 and V4 versions are relatively uncommon

so basically,,, 🤷 i guess we'll have to wait and see

8 versions is actually the number you get if you don't count regional versions as different - if you do, it becomes 12 different versions

Japan had the initial 0.0 release and an exclusive "GLAY Expo" 0.1, Europe had 2.0, 2.1, 2.4 and the incredibly rare 2.5, the US had 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 and South America got 4.3

gets confusing if you look into it more deeply though, since it turns out that after 4.0 the American and European versions are both on each device

they're essentially the same version but with differences applied based on what the version setting is

there's quite a few animation and sprite differences across each of them, plus a few weird random things like whether or not babies can use the connection feature

also re: oyajitchi, i think it's worth a technical explanation of how tamagotchi animations seem to work, from what I can glean off my research:

• Each character has a set of sprites, and each sprite has an associated ID, and somewhere in memory there'll be a list of sprite definitions that convert each ID to its sprite's location in memory
• Animations seem to just be a set of IDs and their respective timings and screen positions
• I'm not 100% sure whether reused sprites (i.e. sprites in multiple ID slots) are literally physical duplicates of the sprite or if they're just duplicate sprite definitions, i.e. two IDs that point at the same position in memory, but based on how Tarakotchi and Nazotchi work on the V2 (duplicate characters, one set of sprites) I think the latter is more likely
• Sprites / their definitions seem to be packed closely together, which means an invalid sprite ID for one character can roll over into the next character (e.g. Deka characters using items on the V2)

what seems to be happening with the oyajitchi animation is that he's playing the animation IDs he's supposed to but the sprite definitions for his mid-stages were set to the default sprite - an easy oversight tbh, especially if there's no mid sprite present in the data (which I think is likely)

I think they just missed a couple bytes in a huge array of data

I'm sorry, I should have specified in that moment that it come across as lazy to me. I think I, and by extension a lot of consumers alike, have been hurt once before by a corporation making a deliberately bad decision, and then clearly lying to their audience about it which hurts their reputation. Plus I will admit, I sometimes fall into cynical moods where I'm a lot more harsh and make snide comments towards them when I really shouldn't. Because yes, it's true that behind most corporations, there are people, human beings, all working hard to appease their target demographic and make a product that appeals to them and makes that audience happy.

In all honesty, right after posting that and thinking about what I just said, I actually thought more along the lines that maybe they initially just had a set storage limit on the device and that they assumed majority of fans would just be okay trashing their accessories on the Uni when new ones were added, but after receiving enough complaints and with a lot more accessories coming down the line, they started working on a solution to the problem.

Obviously if Bandai was as greedy and money-hungry as I sometimes believe they are when I'm in certain mental states, they wouldn't have ever fixed it in the first-place. This obviously all applies to the Oyajitchi situation, too, realistically and logically, yes it's probably just an oversight. To a dedicated fan like myself, it's a lot more noticeable, and I tend to find it hard to believe sometimes when thinking about how rigorous testing must be for video games or other devices. But you're right, at the end of the day I shouldn't be mad at Bandai or their employees about it, or acting outwardly cynical based off an assumption.

If you don't use the matchmaker it'll become a oldie. Oldies can only get married by connecting to another device. There's only 1 character that requires you to own 2 devices and is gotten by marrying 2 oldies.

You have a shorter time than the originals before it becomes an oldie so don't wait more than a day or two after the matchmaker starts comming to get married

Otokitchi can find love for anyone except herself and Ojitchi apparently

Certain items you could get through connecting and that was one of them

That’s a pretty good point, I forgot the Keitai had some seasonal items. That probably gives us a good idea of what they might be distributing in the future

Though it doesn’t look like there were that many seasonal ones (taken from Ale’s site)

Shaved Ice’s code was obvs already given out alongside a shell

Christmas Cake I can’t really see being an item on this version, since “WHOLE CAKE” is already a shop item and a secret shop code

Chocolate and the connection version of Cookie already appear in the shop seasonally too

But maybe the Keitai cookie will be distributed in a code around March

The Entama had a few seasonal items too, these probably aren’t on this version but notably the edamame appeared on the website as one of the secret item images on the homepage

ftr, it seems like it lasts quite a long time on the death screen - I’ve had mine sitting unused for a month and a half (after using it for a month) and it still seems to be going

I feel like once I start running it again it’ll run out immediately

the batteries are only half way empty when the connection rereleases start showing the low battery screen
i got mine the 17th of july and they lasted around 40 days, till late august
then i put them on a music star and a debugged V2 for about a week before putting them on an entama and an uratama the 1st-2nd of september
the entama ran out of battery the 11th of october, about 40 days later
the uratama lasted almost a week more, not much
so yeah
the batteries that came included with my connections lasted about 3 months, but they would not work on the connections themselves after 40 days

i thought maybe they did it to prevent the glitches that the og connections tend to have when the battery is low (such as all the items turning into balls), but this feels a bit excessive

iirc they’ve also got some slightly more robust save file backing up too on this one so it wouldn’t surprise me if avoiding glitches is a high priority

I’ve experienced the random black screen that Cam mentioned, also at one point one of my tamas would constantly reset whenever it’d connect but that might have been a low battery issue because it hasn’t happened since I changed the battery
