I was really min-maxing by feeding it only once after the care mistake passed so it would go hungry quickly again (some devices don't count care mistakes again if they haven't been resolved)

I don't think you've set up WiFi yet but another trick to save battery (apparently) is to keep it on airplane mode so it isn't searching for updates and draining battery

I think the closest to turning it off is letting the battery die (I assume progress stops when the battery is dead or low enough to only display the "low battery" screen, like the smart)

so if you know you'll need it to be paused on a certain day, plan out what it would take for the battery to die around that time

which isn't ideal but might be the best we can do (for now at least)

Charge it when it asks for it, or when it gets low and is convenient for you
