They don’t get rid of drones at the end of sub period though, I still have the extra drones from sub after sub ended, but I just can’t deploy them

I checked your account and you are supposed to get your drones from Sirius, not Tau Ceti. Don't forget that the mission that gives you drones are different depending on your chosen starting faction
