Force quitting after making character name causes entered name to become claimed and unusable | Pixel Starships | Page 1

I entered a character name when prompted at the start of the game, and then once instructed to join a faction the game seemingly locked up because I was unable to click or interact with anything. I force quit the game, but upon subsequent logins it asks me to enter a character name again and when I enter the one I made originally it says that that username is already taken (when it wasn't the first time).

It's a known issue that may get remedied if we add multiple save slots for additional captains. What was the name you wanted to use?

Why doesn't the game save your progress after setting the name so that you can just skip to it if you get stuck here?
