The journey of half a million miles – the first flight of the Artemis Generation – is about to begin. The uncrewed Artemis I mission will jump-start humanity’s return to the Moon with the thunderous liftoff of NASA’s powerful new Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft. This critical flight test will send Orion farther than any human-rat...

Watch live as our mega Moon rocket launches an uncrewed Orion spacecraft on a six-week mission around the Moon and back to Earth. During #Artemis I, Orion will lift off aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and travel 280,000 miles (450,000 km) from Earth and 40,000 miles (64,000 km) beyond the far side of the Moon, carrying science and t...

wish i could’ve seen this in real time
It was postponed till Friday
NASA leaders give an update on the launch of the Artemis I flight test, originally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29. Following tanking operations, engineers were troubleshooting an issue conditioning one of the RS-25 engines (engine 3) on the bottom of the rocket's core stage. All engines must reach a proper temperature range before they can be sta...
what time?
Teams are currently troubleshooting an issue with engine number 3 on the SLS rocket core stage. A new launch date has not yet been confirmed. The next available launch opportunity is Sept. 2.

Space family
Engine leak. It's not certain that they will fix it by Friday

That sounds critical lmao
They ought do what they did with JWST and just postpone as long as they need to assure literally nothing happens
It's likely that the weather won't allow for a launch on Friday anyways.
yub.
nah don't get me wrong im a proponent of "hold off in the case of literally anything"
oh, whoops
can't curse but yeah

Countdown to impact as NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) attempts humanity’s first-ever test of planetary defense! The DART spacecraft will intentionally crash into asteroid Dimorphos at 7:14 p.m. ET on Monday, September 26, 2022 to see if kinetic force can change its orbit. Why? If this test is successful, the same technique could ...

Any space nerds here? I'm looking for a specific star
it’s me as a planet
No @MarsCuriosity hasn't found a "secret door" on Mars leading to a martian chamber, tomb or shopping mall. It's just a fracture in the ancient rock, barely big enough for a cat to squeeze through. You can even see the back if you zoom in. NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS/fredk/S Atkinson

This animation takes the viewer on a simulated flight into, and then out of, Jupiter’s upper atmosphere at the location of the Great Red Spot. It was created by combining an image from the JunoCam imager on NASA's Juno spacecraft with a computer-generated animation.
The perspective begins about 2,000 miles (3,000 kilometers) above the cloud to...
@eternal radish Hello

You know what the mug that I got from NASA gift shop has a hexagonal pattern at the bottom
nasa? were you in the states?
it seems like a manufacturing error but it resembles the storms of Jupiter and Saturn
no I just waited 2 months for international delivery
lol that's a hell of a wait. that reminds me I may actually go and visit the nasa facility in maryland when i go to DC next month
i may also visit the air and space museum again because they have an X wing from star wars there xD
well the one up north from DC... there's one in DC proper as well thats a smithsonian
You know mustard plant can handle growing in space
I was never in America I'm a poor court clerk, no moneys for any travel 😦

OMFG I CAN POST LINKS HERE
but yes space wine. i read a while ago that a few bottles were aged aboard the ISS
Thoughts? @devout topaz
two jupiters
It appears that after Mars, NASA wants to sent people to Titan and Europa @devout topaz
I cannot wait to go to space 😎
Space is tight
indeed space
Space is spacious
I am a space enjoyer myself if I do say so myself yes
What do you think of Jupiter
https://www.space.com/tachyons-facts-about-particles couldn't find the original article but this one is ok
I think it's really big, really gaseous, and I actually really like it
Io is a moon of Jupiter, yes? We should be able to return to it in the video game Destiny 2
Jupiter has like over 50 moons but the most interesting ones are 4
Oh shit, if people go to mars, they will stay for 500 days on it @hybrid sable You wanna go?
As NASA moves forward with plans to send astronauts to the Moon under Artemis missions to prepare for human exploration of Mars, the agency is calling on U.S. industry, academia, international communities, and other stakeholders to provide input on its deep space exploration objectives.

What do you think of Mercury @hybrid sable
It's very hot, just like you
So I want to go visit
How do you feel about it, Peter 🤖
I think Mercury is the most useless planet
Although it also gave us one of 3 known gravitational anomalies
You have real passion for space and astronomy, don't you Piotr Robot?
Just a bit
I enjoy dankness
What part of space do you enjoy?
What do you think of the bulk

Is Pluto still a planet or did it explode?
What do you think?
Yeah I'd need to make this observation several times and track the movement
i feel like NASA would say something about that if it happened
It'a question that a kid asked to nasa

Triton and Neptune
how are you finding these
@devout topaz
What do you think of Haumea the dwarf planet? @devout topaz
thats an egg
Planets aligning today no?
Yes but I wasn't motivated to wake up early in the morning
we got any pics from JWST yet?
only test images, they will release full blown stuff on 12th of July

Europa and Jupiter seen by JWST
Did you know: Europa, Io, and Ganymede have what is known as "Laplace resonance"
For every single orbit of Jupiter that Ganymede completes, Europa completes exactly two, and Io, exactly four
Additionally, through it's orbit, Io crosses Jupiter's magnetic field, where it reacts with Io's atmosphere. This generates an electric current known as the Io Flux Tube, which results is auroras on Jupiter's poles.

The Fifth Giant is a hypothetical gaseous planet hypothesized to have been ejected by Jupiter and Saturn around 4.4 billion years ago. It is thought to have been an ice giant like Uranus and Neptune. Just like the other planets, the Fifth Giant's core could have formed from a dense clump of rocky and gaseous material around 4.56 billion years ag...
