Do red border weapons only drop with a pattern immediately ready to extract? Previously some weapons dropped and allowed you to extract a pattern after using it for some time. I just want to check this is no longer possible before wasting my deepsight harmonizers.

You can extract the pattern right away if it's a red border. Deepsight harmonizer converts weapon to red border right away as well. No kills/playtime required
Once you've enough patterns (generally 5) and craft the weapon, you'll need to level up the weapon before you can use some perks. Everything is unlocked at level 17. That'll obviously require some playtime

Ok thanks, i bought 5 lost signals from Xur and just wanted to make sure harmonizers were my only option to get the patterns

You can get a red border from Xur if you’re super lucky but getting 5 is borderline impossible. You’re right harmonizers are the only way to extract patterns and craft the weapon
