focus on your power lvl, any portal activities should drop loots for you that increases power.
use whatever armor you find thats higher than your power lvl, dont infuse anything yet, youll just be wasting materials
realistically you want atleast t3 equipment as a baseline. youll get more higher tier stuff the higher your power lvl is.
try to get atleast a few of the good exotic weapons. queensbreaker exotic heavy should carry you on any boss that needs damaging.
most importantly use whatever weapon/armor you want, specially on solo if thats what youre comfortable with, try to experiment on builds early on
