I’m starting to get back into destiny and the star chart is overwhelming. I don’t know what to start with. I did the final shape campaign before I left but now I’m lost. Any pointers of where to go? I’m at 1960 light

Echoes is 1st season, Revenant is 2nd, Heresy is 3rd and current. Also drop by rite of the nine node (current dungeon activity) on eternity and get your free gift (2020 gear + weapons + some exotics), skips the power grind completely
I may have understood wrong during bungie livestream but they said they'll focus on building stuff which will be long term "going forward". Current episodes/season, associated campaigns and activities should vanish mid-Jul

Then do Episode Echoes. You can find it in your director under the hourglass.
Should says something about Failsafe and Nessus. Then do Revenant with Crow. That will give you access to potion crafting. Finally do Heresy with Eris and Drifter. that gives you Tome of Want.

Yea, that happens. I didn't even know (mainly cuz I don't usually read the twid) that it would be a thing, but they did it for the other event so am not surprised.

I went to go collect bounties and really only got some from the gun smith and xur

No not anymore. There are pathfinders. If you go to the vanguard ops node, you can see a node for pathfinder.
