Right so I've recently got back into playing and my friend pulled me into the derealize mission so I got the weapon but I can't get any of the quest for the upgrades

You have to find the special worms in the Nether runs I believe. One is the area where Drifter and Eris fought the subjugator if you go back along the statue hallway under the bridge where there's typically a tormentor and a bunch of pickups as an encounter.
One, iirc, is in the area you first dropped into the nether, go through the small tunnel and across the gap, turn around and look up against the far wall, there should be a big taken orb where you entered for derealize, I think there's also a worm there.
