Finality's Auger Catalyst

If I am on the final step before obtaining the catalyst, and I invite my friend who is on the first step of the quest. Will he be able to obtain the catalyst as well?

if he doesn't have the exotic he can't get the catalyst, and if he hasn't done the quest he can't get loot from the "end of quest chest"

the catalyst is awarded the first time you open that specific chest AND you have obtained the exotic at the time of you opening the chest

what you can do is make your friend obtain every worm and do every secret required by the quest to speed things up on subsequent runs

i opened the chest without the exotic once before and got legendary loot

I have the exotic now, but does that mean I won’t be able to open the chest again?

Iirc you can just open the chest again and still get the exotic catalyst, it doesn't have the first weekly time of you opening the chest

Worst case scenario you just gotta wait a couple days for the catalyst
