Haven't played destiny in a long time (around 9 months) and don't know/remember how to start. I had some builds but I assume all of them are outdated and I remember struggling to reach cap. any tips?

Best thing to start with is to just mess around with new content. Most builds that were overpowered on final shape’s launch are still pretty good save for a few.
