#How does the tonic system work?

And why is it on a timer? Isn't that counter intuitive?
I understand that the diluted tonics are mainly for buffs so that's one half
But the bounty-like ones that reward weapons and gear confuse me
Literally use the tonic and play as you do normally. You will earn the associated rewards usually on activity completion and sometimes when killing a major.
It’s not like a bounty. If you use a tonic of Chroma Rush, it does not expire after you get a Chroma Rush to drop. It will expire in 60-66 minutes.
So you can complete multiple activities in that time period for multiple drops of the weapon.
Could be a gambit game, two crucible, a wave 10 Onslaught run.
The way the system is currently, it’s recommended to pop a tonic close to the end of an activity if your last one expired. Killing a major isn’t a 100% drop.
To unlock the enriching tonics (the ones that reward gear and weapons), pay attention to their green variants.
There should be a green one that gives a chance at Onslaught:Salvation, Vintage Onslaught and Shadestalker armor. Make it enough times to unlock three blue tonics that-
Will do each of those individually.
You can then make enough of those blue tonics to unlock purple tonics that target farm specific drops (make Vintage Onslaught tonics to unlock tonic of Chroma Rush example).
Literally just a tree branch progression path but you can’t control which branch you unlock first. Just after so many you unlock them all.
When you say diluted tonics, I assume you mean volatile.
oh wow alright cause after i posted this i actually unlocked one of the blue tonics, the one that gives me specifically a helmet i think
so would that mean that even if the tonic passes the 20min timer (cause its the green one) it wouldnt ACTUALLY finish until one of the rewards it's supposed to give me drops?
focus alot of greens to unlock blue, focus a few blues to unlock the next one.. .and so on
