Throwing melee question

I've noticed in vids with titan + throwinghammer is despite the enemy being up close to you, they were able to throw it. For me (console with controller) when I try it I just punch and have to make some distance to throw it. There something I'm missing?

You need to remap your buttons to separate the powered melee from the normal melee

Go into your settings, controller, bindings
