how do I ignite enemies on hunter?

I returned to D2 when final shape started and it seems I pretty much forgot how to do solar ignitions. I pretty much only play on my hunter. Can someone explain to me how I do solar ignitions on enemies?

gotta stack enough scorch stacks, reach 100 on a guy and he'll ignite

there's also a fragment that makes super kills ignite, gunpowder gamble is an ignition, and calibans hand makes peeps ignite

is just shooting enough? or do I have to wait until the scorch on the enemy reached 100 on itself?

shooting by itself doesn't do scorch, a bunch of grenades, melees, perks, etc do though

and scorch stacks go down with time, not up
