Raid Exotics?

So im recently confused about raid exotics and their chances.

I originally thought you had infinite chances each week to get the raid exotic

But recently I've heard some info stating that you only have one chance per week, per character to get said raid exotic

Is that true?

it's always been one chance per week per character

If the raid is a weekly raid then you'll be able to farm it constantly on any character for that week

If the raid is not a weekly raid then its once per character

What about brand new raids? Are they any exception or no?
