Get a universally decent build. (Purchase everything you need from Ikora, she also gives you a new light kit with some cool free stuff.)
Get some exotics. (Dropped from weekly ritual activity completions.)

Up your Light Level. (Get high-level gear from vendor ranks, focused activities and so on.)
