The catalyst run won’t start for me. Orbs to shoot don’t show up. Anybody know why it isn’t working?

Yes. And it was in my inventory.
Tried running it with a person who has the catalyst, tried with someone who has the gun and hasn’t completed the quest, it isn’t showing up to start catalyst progress.
Tried posting on bungie help forums but that’s worthless.

instead of doing this just Google your problem on YouTube. the first guide I found told you that it needed to be done because I wasn't 100% sure anymore either

I tried googling it and found a thread on Reddit that said someone got the catalyst prior to completing the quest

I ran it duo with a friend of mine that already has the catalyst and I have completed the quest. Orb still didn’t show up.
