#as a 1st time sherpa. what’s important to you.

Are you the sherpa?
i assume he is
by the way going over the lore is above and beyond most people just want the raid to be done so if you’re already doing that don’t worry too much
just go over collectibles encounters bosses weapons to use for each and you should b ok
Yes, I had a five year break - came back all new raids etc and have had some awesome but also awful experiences learning the new raids.
Hmm depends on what raid
It’s a she but no shade bro. Yeah I just thought it would be a fun interesting thing for people doing a Sherpa to understand how it fits into the story?
Hey hyena my first two would be either LW or DSC
Last wish I always do wish 1 and 2
And dsc usually just secret chests
Make sure to shuffle the roles in dsc
If you want I have seen users do the shurochi com macro and do all 10 wishes for extra exotic ratw
If you do wish on farming week do riven 5 times as it usually guarantees the exotic
Teach kalli legit or even do challenge if your up for it
Cool! I’m learning still but I’m cool at vault and know how to explain everything so that it makes sense.
For shurochi use the rock to jump up and show off the encounter and make sure to stay out of the roless
When sherpaing you want to stay out of roles unless someone says they are uncomfortable
If your not confident in the raid alone bring a second person who knows what to do
Double sherpas are more efficient and help more
Good tip. Okay. Yes, I’d only take a role if someone got into the stress mess up situation. Then I’d blame myself and purposely throw to switcharoo.
Most of all just be calm be sure to have them ask all the questions they want
My first Sherpa - I’ve got a second sneaky Sherpa as a backup.
As far as dsc goes bring a second sherpa or someone who knows what to do
Especially for attracs which requires 2 groups
Especially because the team might not have the burst dps needed
If someone leaves mid raid don't replace them with another person whos learning find a kwtd to help
I know dsc like the back of my hand. Including various strats - and yes agreed.
Yesterday one of my clans sherpas got messed up on vow because half way through someone swapped for another who did not know what to do and the sherpa took 4 hours and 46min
Vow is also a advanced raid tho
I had one of the worst Sherpa experiences ever on vow. With me as a learner.
Vow can be very hard
Especially with a group that was kinda new to raiding
The trick is patience
One of my worst Sherpa experiences ever.
I’m intending to put maps/symbols in chat.
Both myself and the other player with low clears - quit. After 3 hours being told that we have to do all three floors. Only using two damage plates on first two.
in a sherpa run its generally important not to flood everyone with all the information you can have, give them an overview of each encounter with mechanics broken down to be understood more easily
and give some good weapons to use aswell, try and actually teach, like put the new people on roles so they learn them and dont turn it into a full carry
try doing dsc collectibles
and from personal experience i would advise not to have a group of 1 sherpa 5 learners, as those runs tend to take very long at times
maby see to getting someone you know to join you and maby lend you a hand, so you can both help out and possibly add, if the other forgot something (there is no shame in that, its better to actually know than to ego it)
I would run with lfgs who kwtd before hand incase you can pick up any times or strategies
and dont blame people if something messes up, as they are learning there is bound to probably be some messups
collectibles for dsc r in easy spots 3 of them are on the way - 1st, 4th, and 5th, with the 2nd just being above 1-2 transition and 3rd being below one of the towers in jumping puzzle
but yea what they said
And be very clear and honest about how long you think this raid will take and endure everyone has the time to finish the raid
Give them a warning like hey this could be 2 hours
If u don't have 2 hours you probably should wait for a better time
another reason to take like 1 or 2 kwtds/helpers with you, so it doesnt go till like 5 hours as most people are just not willing to put in that much time even if its a sherpa run
If someone talks about how they watched a YouTube vid or guide make sure that they know some people do encounters differently from others and explain that for this sherpa they are going to try your strategy
Don't be afraid to check there builds
yeah, most yt videos were made day 1 and are not at all up to date with strategies
Yup and it usually means they have yt loadouts
!!and their raid report/guardian report!! there is so many fake "learners" who have loads of clears and just wanna mess with/make fun of sherpas
Like fonts and stats over good exotics and surges on 24/7 and double primary
Yes but 1-2 clears is alright or even under 10 just check the dates because last wish and dsc both have loads of players who cleared like 3 years ago and forgot
yeah, but if you have someone with a stacked raid report and like 40+ clears they are most likely not there to learn
But also check for full clears
There is a difference between knowing a raid and farming final boss for a exotic
guardian report is the easiest way to get a general check on clears, cuz it adds the entire fireteam and you can have an overview of everyone, then if somehting is fishy you can pull up their rr to double check
Make sure to give information about how farming for that raid works make sure they know it can be farmed only 1/7 weeks and which is the best encounters to farm for the best guns that will help the most
Destiny companion has kalli farms and master spire clears every week
but also tell them about the redboarder chests and weekly redboarders, if they are going for specific weapons
For last wish explain the wish wall and how they can get to the chests every week
and the quest/vendor at hawthorne
Don't start sherpas u are not confident you can finish but if you do get a replacement sherpa from this servers #find-a-sherpa
Ive had times were things came up and I had to go
Agree - roles. I’ll switch if they get to that weird frustration ditch point - but I’ll try to make out it’s my fault or some other reason.
dont make it your fault, that will help nobody. tell them something along the lines of "if this is getting too frustrating for you i can take over if you want"
Yep the two raids I’ll Sherpa first - I know how the red boarders etc work. Plus the easier challenges, triumphs. Because then they feel like a rock star.
if they are messing up because of some mistake give them a solution on how to do it better (positioning, loadout, timing) and let them try again
End with the same calm energy and vibe that you started with
the triumphs and stuff are also good for the increased exotic chance at the end, just make sure they claim the triumphs before you finish the final encounter
I tend to do the whole, dammit. I’m getting tricked here can we switch around a little? Okay - why don’t we swap x and y. So sorry x - you get to learn another role.
Yeah. I’ve got a link to wishes, maps etc.
do you have your of server or are you doing it in this server?
character limit is annoying, isnt it?
Yeah clan server. Even have a Sherpa as back up for first runs but I’ll be popping in to offer. 2 inexperienced for first runs.
having your own server with channels for raid related graphics is good, so you dont have to dm around 15 images whenever you reference something
Yeah. Just want people to have a really fun time. Whilst doing it. And that’s why I’m happy to give a lore breakdown. Obviously if they just want mechanics and out. I’ll shut the fluff up.
That’s a good tip. I’ve found the best images I can find - as some people are on phones. So it’s clear etc
personally i would give some tidbits/fun facts with it, most people dont do raids for the story/lore so it shouldnt overshadow everything else
(like 5 min mechanic explanation and then the entire life history of riven for 1 hour) but some side info about bosses and stuff is usually appreciated
I don’t care if it takes us 8 hours. We’ll get there together.
Yep. I’ve researched these. Plus will give a little context on what they are…
i did a "trial" sherpa run with some peeps i knew when i wanted to sherpa a raid so they could tell me if i explained it well, overexplained or missed something
good stuff
Sounds like a good plan. I spent three hours practising the sparrows and pikes / just so we can get what is an easy challenge/triumph. 🤪
👍
If you’re just getting into sherpaing id first start with teaching one person and then 2 people and so forth before thrusting yourself into training all 5 at once
People have different rates of understanding concepts and different ways of learning.
I start every encounter explanation with champion types and recommended loadouts (ad clear vs. boss dps, standout weapons, ect.). Then immediately say what will start the encounter so people hopefully won’t start it
Also ask “any questions?” At least once per encounter explanation and after wipes. Try to explain why you wiped if people don’t know.
Can I join your sherpa run? Sounds really interesting
roles need explaining, not lore
so like for taniks, you don't need explaining what he is and why or stress so much about sparrow techniques.
keep it simple:
"we're picking up his 4 nukes and carrying them to each deposit bin in the opposing sides"
"#5 pops bubbles that trap people, #6 is suppressing from under the 3 beach balls near him"
"then we all dps on the div bubble right above mid"
Been doing garden div run sherpas and other sherpas for a while. and I've noticed people pick up alot better if you explain detailed what's going to happen and how it works, and then recap super super short what to do
Like for example GOS Harpy boss: "1 team babysit the harpy pick up and shoot eyes. other team play gambit and kill minotaurs for motes"
Pray to god people don’t use TLord for dps
Hate to be the local TLord hating sweat lord but yeah, it’s bad, and so is a lot of other stuff new players use
Unironically the Season of the Lost ritual RL is better with impulse/elight assuming someone has Ghorn
dsc also has collectibles
I'd also like to suggest, when explaining an encounter to someone for the first time, try to broadly cover what is going on in the encounter, before immediately diving into strategy and mechanics
Like for Vow 3rd encounter:
"We have to get through four rooms by finding the correct glyphs to open the door. We have to move quick so as to not get engulfed by the darkness, and some relics will help us along the way"
then go into detail on how pervading darkness works, what the relics are, glyphkeer mechanics, the wipe timer, the cooldown for picking up a relic, etc
Letting people know the big picture makes it easier to figure out where all the little elements fit into the overall goal, easier to keep track of everything
Some sherpas will just start off with the strategy like for example in RoN 1st encounter "we shoot orb. you kill psions and then tormentor. don't kill tormentor if we tell you not to"
