It's always good to have alternative options in your back pocket -- especially if you have an interest in Day 1 raid runs.

But as for Star-Eater Scales, it's a very good exotic if used right. Not only does it increase your Super damage, it also helps you charge it more quickly off Orbs of Power.

The two Supers which work well with that exotic at the moment are Blade Barrage (Solar) and Gathering Storm (Arc).

Quick damage up-front leaves more time to run through a DPS rotation with your weapons. Same principle applies to Marksman Golden Gun and Celestial Nighthawk.
