Do subclass elemental pickups (ionic trace, firesprite, etc...) only effect you if you have the matching subclass element when one is picked up? For example picking up ionic traces created from coldheart while using a void subclass.

No, that will still benefit your abilities on other subclasses. I think the wording of ionic traces is energy to “abilities” and not just arc abilities
