Do you need to exchange them with Petra first, or what? I have three waking tokens and wanted to bank them in the same run just now, so I haven't left the dungeon yet hmm

You need to GET them from Petra. You don't have them automatically after starting the quest with Sjur. It's annoying leftover from back in the day, when you actually have to go to Tangled Shore during the quest.

Well, I have them since Shadowkeep. Never did the quest though. You saying I should discard them and just pick them up fresh?

And if you did get them from Petra after talking with Sjur, you just failed some of the three challenges along the way. Quest is not bugged as far as I know.

I don't know how they would behave after being in inventory for so long. You might try challenges again, follow some guide or something. If that doesnt work, then sure, discard the quest, items, pick it up again
