How do you get exotics from vendor playlists now that they've changed the way it works

Every time you complete a playlist activity, you get a point. every 3 points, you get an exotic engram, up to a maximum of 3 engrams

at least for me it's pinnacle and not exotic

so is there no way to get actual exotic engrams like before now anymore?
or do we just wait for random drop

if you want one you can focus, just random drop unless the weekly challenge is changed
