What is the best activity to farm them?

if you've got alot of prisms (farm them in nightfalls with double drops) then you can buy a blue armor piece and upgrade them from 5 to 8 and dismantle them

you spend 3 cores and a prism and you get 6 cores back. basically turning in 1 prism for 3 cores
