If heavy generation is your issue, try using double special. It drastically increases the amount of heavy that drops. Also using heavy to kill things will increase the number of green bricks that drop.
Im pretty sure even if you are using abilities for kills you still get more bricks for each.

if you have your heavy out (rockets for example) and kill stuff with abilites you Do get extra green, super useful!

You can even do stuff like shoot forbearance and swap to your rocket and get a bunch of special from the forbearance energy wave
