I would not use it on weapons that can currently be dropped unless you REALLY don't want to farm them cough Neptune cough
beyond that yea, the old weapons that sometimes pop up at xur or weapon smith are prob your best bet assuming you want them
since these can't easily be gotten from normal gameplay

I would only use them on weapons that don't have some sort of guaranteed red border drop mechanic. Neomuna weapons come to mind for this.
