Are lost sectors still a thing and if so how do I get them to drop exotics

yes still a thing. You have to do the one that has legendary/master difficulty. The planet for it should have a mark in the Destinations tab.

launch and go to the entrance and interact with the flag to select difficulty and start. to get exotics they have to be done solo

make sure your loadout is good and can deal with the champs/shields appropriately

Also a note - you can only see the mark for the current legend lost sector if you've cleared it already regularly

You can use TodayInDestiny to look up what the current lost sector is if you can't find it

Do some sectors require dlc?

I honestly don't know. I want to assume yes since you need access to planets but you may get basic planet access in free version? Own all DLCs so not sure

I cleared it twice and no option to do it on a difficulty on the map so prob

you may need the forsaken dlc for it today since it is on the dreaming city destination. you also need to be above 1750 light

none do, you just need the location unlocked and all are free

some are locked under a mission you have to do
