My Solar hunter works incredibly well with high damage and survivability, the issue is getting momentum by killing a few things first

Yeah, Solar kills to get firesprites to get restoration, is the main thing

if it's just an 'as healing is needed' thing then a heavy solar machinegun may be an option as well, and free up exotic slot. Would also depend on heavy needs
Ticcus is also a good solar exotic, locks can be invaluable for things like taken orb attacks and such, but situational
skyburners can also be good as hipfire gives (extremely small) scorch and killing scorched targets can proc things depending on fragments.

The restoration isn't as needed, kills extend the duration so as long as there are ads, and radiance buffs the damage enough to shred ads to further extend
