From what ive heard high level nightfalls award a bit more than regular activities

afaik, Mayhem is the shortest activity that will give progress. Nightfalls give more progress, but take longer. Honestly just do whatever you want. Doing the same thing 50+ times is boring.

or you could go in to sorrows harbor and get kills quick there. I do a lot of primary ammo weapon cats there
