Can someone please explain me how exactly artifact power levels work. (For example: i'm 1589, and i have 6levels of artifact power. Should i grind more to reach GM power level on my gear or am i good?)

Your overall power is your Gear powerlevel and your artifact powerlevel added.

You can do GMs at 1589, youre 6 power under max which is fine. If its your first time doing GMs maybe you wanna get to 1595 first.

So artifact power level basically doesn't matter?

It does, it contributes to your overall power just like your gear

Technically GMs are at 1620 but you will always be 25 below 1620 which takes us to the maximum 1595.
