I have always wanted to do a raid, but I don't know where to start. How long does it take the average destiny fire squad? What are the best weapons? Are people willing to help you learn the ropes of things?

Vault of Glass is the easiest raid so it make sense to start there. For someone to teach you, you can look for or make a post yourself in #find-a-sherpa

Sorry, cause I forgot about the other parts of your question: A team with experienced players will finish any raid in about ~45 Minutes.

If you have learning players it can take a few hours, depends heavily on how fast people learn and how "good" they are at the game in general already of course (most important is just surviving!)

#

One weapon you should definitely get is a Taipan-4fr with Triple Tap and Firing Line, it's up there with the best DPS weapons and very easy to craft.

#

There's an introductory quest to crafting at the Enclave that will give you the pattern for it

Probably a bit late to the party but I’ll shoot my shot

#

VoG is a joke of a raid, it’s comparable to a long strike with some weird segments with wipe mechanics

#

Deepstone Crypt, while it does require Beyond Light, is the best raid to learn as a beginner

#

It teaches you a lot about how raising works, and about four competent players can pretty much hard carry all of the encounters, assuming the other players know vaguely what’s going on

#

All you really NEED for raids is Taipan, though if you have shadowkeep I’d recommend getting Xenophage, the quest for it is easy if someone helps you through it and it’s good for a couple encounters

#

And parasite is really strong in one specific encounter (DSC Atraks)

For gods sake don’t do Last Wish or Garden of Salvation (GoS is fine if and only if you’re getting Div)

#

Vow is pretty difficult if you don’t have good dps weapons and like 3 or more people aren’t experienced

Yeah

#

You can do any raid any number of times per week

#

But unless it’s the rotator or the most recent raid you don’t get more loot

#

A long questline in shadowkeep, you do some weird stuff in lost sectors and some random garbage and then go through pit of heresy, it’s not too hard if you find a guide for it

I wouldn’t bother with it though

#

All it’s good for is crypt security and oracles in vog

#

Security any lmg or bastion works, and oracles can be done with arby
