You can use the app and it sends out an invite. You can invite people based on their bungie name too
Tons of ways. You can give them your bungie name and they can / join on you if your fireteam is open

because sometimes the app isn’t where i find people so adding them as a bungie friend gets redundant

@nova saffron use the slash on the right side of your keyboard. I kept thinking it was broken until I figured that out... both invite and join work 100%. Hppe this helps
