Here's personally how I started. Shoot aliens first question later
Destiny has a terrible new game experience filling you with "buy me now" screens and story is all over the place
You don't need to worry much about max level when you're starting out as most of the game is actually always at the minimum level

the good thing about destiny is that once youre done with the first light quest you can pretty much do anything you want and youll level up to around 1530 or smth
