The reason that fragmentation is a problem, is that mechanical hard disks are mechanical - they physically spin. When you write a file to a drive (of any kind), there isn't necessarily always going to be enough space in one location for the whole file; so, at that point, the file gets split into multiple parts and then becomes physically located on multiple places on the disk

#

For the file to be read, all parts of the file need to be accessed, and since a mechanical drive spins and has a high latency, every fragment causes your file accesses to be slower (usually about 12-16 milliseconds per fragment)

#

defragmenting is the process of rearranging all of the files on your drive so that each of them are individually contiguous, so you only have 1 access latency per file to worry about

Depends what you're playing? If you want to go from 1080 to 1440 or 4k then you're going to need the extra gpu performance first and foremost

have you checked all the normal stuff, crap running in background that you don't need, thermal issues

if you increase the settings and your fps stays very similar, you might find that it's the cpu being an issue
