I'm putting together a Linux workstation for a thing. Separate from my gaming PC. My spare 1080 isn't playing nice with it. It works, but there's tearing and things. Apparently kinda common. What's the best bang for your buck AMD card atm? It's going to be running Blender, so something with some tooth to it would be good.

My Windows workstations has a 1080ti -- it's alright for now. But this Linux machine... I just don't know anything about AMD atm.

Nvidia container is a subprocess of the nvidia driver, depending on the specific container it either deals with content encryption, 3d vision features or surround features

you can disable them all and restart, they'll be loaded on demand when actually needed

it really shouldn't be doing much unless needed, feel free to disable them all

you can do it in task manager, but you might find extra entries if you use a sysinternals (microsoft) utility called Autoruns

but be careful with it, it's very powerful

Like once i came back to my pc after going to the bathroom and had 0 applications running after booting it up and my screen froze all the time and when i finally got my task manager up i saw one of them going haywire

It shouldn't be doing it by itself, so it may be something loaded in it causing problems

Theres another sysinternals utility you can use to investigate this, gimme a sec

It's called vmmap

remember you'll need to end the nvidia container processes too since disabling them just stops them starting, it doesnt kill the process

If you're using Windows 10, frequent reinstalls shouldnt be neded since each new version (1709, 1803 etc) is basically a reinstall and sets the baseline again

everything else should be managable manually

though admittedly reformatting is usually easier

you used to be able to easily download the windows 10 iso just by going to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO, but now it redirects you to the media creation tool instead

if you open the iso link on a non-windows machine like a phone or a tablet, or a linux/mac computer, you can still download the iso's directly

I found a windows 10 installer on microsoft's site aswell but that shit didnt work i had to get win10 on a thumbdrive and head to bios

yeah, they stopped making it easy to get the iso for folk who are already runnign windows, i think some less knowledgable folk were downloading the iso when they just wanted to upgrade and didnt know what to do with it

Oh noes, you should always run the uninstallers

data left in the registry should be relatively small though, if you're trying to make space you might wanna find out where the space is being used

When i click uninstall on those it shows just that the pathway cannot be found

you can remove the entry from the registry if it bothers you

doing it manually is a bit of a task, but if you use ccleaner from piriform you can use it to delete entries using the add/remove software section

The case is sorta designed for compact custom liquid cooling, but I don't liquid cool my components

so i have a giant air cooler that has zero clearance between my ram and the top of the case, and all of the traditional cable management channels are too shallow
