Bridge over Waterfalls

I'm using the Switch and am having unbelievable trouble making a bridge to go past the waterfalls. I've tried the simple bridge but it wouldn't rotate. I tried building a flat bridge but it was too short. I tried adding one more plank and even using the large objects blueprint, it wouldn't save because it said it was over the max size. I'm banging my head against the wall and was actually in tears.

Also, I'm trying to figure out how to unlock bronze tools and everything I read on Fandom and YouTube describe very different requirements under the hammer tool than I have on my game. It's almost like I'm playing a completely different game. Please help.
